773 White-red-yellow-black conundrum and syndrome

This is a Thai Fair & Lovely Advertisement for a face cream: "...Just being white is enough to make you win. ..." . Though this advertisement might have been intended for Thai audience, a similar environment prevails in India too, where 'white' body color commands premium, and black body color is discounted. This applies to both sexes, although "money" is more important than the body color. In other words, we can say- other things being equal अन्य बातों के समान Ceteris Paribus, white body color is preferred.

From the body color point of view, India is "a hybrid grey or wheat complexion". Being a country of hot climate, Indians have lot of melanin in their skins, though may not be in the same magnitude as in the Equatorial Central Africa. When compared to Kashmir which is on the extreme North, the melanin content in skins of people who reside in Kerala and South Tamil Nadu may tend to be more, and consequently people may become dark complexioned. Thus, everything connected to body color has got to do with climate, rather than raciality. When people migrate from y hotte regions to colder regions or vice versa, the changes in melanin content in their bodies may also take a few generations, and a few Centuries to undergo the adaptation to the new environment. In the meantime, those who have migrated from a colder environment, and with a whiter body color may feel that they have descended from heaven or sky, and act with condescension towards natives of the migrated land. Sometimes, the natives may also feel or suffer from an inferiority complex for their darker body colors.

Recently, there was a heated argument on TV Channels between one Dr. Kancha Ilaiah, a Professor of Political Science, at Maulana Azad University, and local 21st Century Brahmins. It appears that Mr. Ilaiah has called Brahmins 'lazy' or work-shy. In one letter to Editor, I found that he added a suffix "shepherd" to his name, to indicate that he is from a shepherd community. Whatever may be the reason for the deep-rooted hatred of Dr. Ilaiah towards Brahmin Community, he ought not to have made a generalised-sweeping comment against a whole Community of 21st Century which is different from the Vedic or Puranic Brahmin Community of some 2000 years B.C.

In that T.V. discussion, the self-appointed defendent of the Brahmin Community argued that there was no discrimination in India, on the basis of color. As a proof he said that Rama and Krishna, though of black body color are worshipped as Gods.

I have earlier covered a part of this body color topic, by quoting from Sanskrit Vyasa Mahabharat, as an additional piece of evidence that Aryans migrated to India from North Europe. In the particular set of Mahabharata verses, Brahmins were said to have a white body color, kshatriyas (warriors) a red body color, Vysyas (traders, partly cultivators) an yellow body color, SUdrAs (servants) a black body color. It is necessary to resolve this conflict or paradox, how white Aryan Scriptures Valmiki Ramayan, Vyasa Mahabharata, Vyasa Mahabhagavata, deify and eulogise black kings and warriors as Supreme Gods.

About color of stone idols in Indian Temples, "availability of suitable stone for carving" decides the color of the stone deities installed in temples. For this reason only, South Indian Temples of black granite idols. Temples in Rajasthan, U.P., and Bihar use more white marble. Some red sand stone idols can also be found. Anyway, the composition of the stone available for sculpting has influenced the color of the temple deities. We cannot read much more into these.

I request my readers not to misunderstand me. This is only a guesswork, or a semi-acceptable approximation. This is an intermediate state of our exploration of truth. Later, we may have to go back from our analyses, when new evidence is found.

The legendary and mythological Epic Hero Arjuna, took pride in his white body color.

English gist: Till the horizon, till the end of the boundaries of oceans, nobody exists who is equal in 'color' to me; in purity (of body color, obviously) or in handsomeness. Hence, I am known as Arjuna.

Question: When Arjuna is so white, how is it that his brother-in-law, Krishna was black in color?

We may have to make some temporary (provisional) reasonable approximations (guesswork) till better evidence is traced.

Here, we should make a distinction between the Nordic (North European, Baltic) Aryan migrants of about 6000 B.C. and the Post Vascodigama European White invaders of the 16th Century C.E. The 6000 B.C. Aryan migrants to India did not have fire weapons such as guns and mortars. They were fireworshippers, and they depended on firegod for their rescue. They used to send all offering to their Supreme God Visn through the fire Gods. They expected their protection and victories through Sacred Chants. Though maces, swords were not taboo, they depended more for their defence and offence on arrows and darts. With simple arrows and darts, they were not sure of their victories.

They self-convinced themselves that their arrows and darts, sent out while uttering the sacred chants had special powers, bolstered by the supernatural powers of the Gods they were inviting to travel along with the arrows and darts. Brahma (creator), VaishNava or nArAyana (Visn), pASupata (Shiva), vAruNa (Rain God), AgnEya (Fire God) etc. were all such magic chanted. They also proclaimed loudly the magical powers of their enchanted arrows, to intimidate their enemies. When white Aryans said these things, native Indians gradually developed a habit of believing in them. These beliefs seemed to have continued till the 14th Century CE, i.e. till the defeat of Kakatiya King Pratapa Rudra II, in the hands of Delhi Sultan invaders.

This dependence of Indians on arrows and darts supported by magic chants, has underwent some examination in the hands of Sir Arthur Connon Doyle in his Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. As far as I can recollect, the villain in that Sherlock Holmes episode depended on use of darts, in a boat squirmish. I shall try to give here, a link to that Sherlock Holmes adventure, which is interesting to read.

All the original migrants of the 6000 BC from Nordics, might have classified themselves as Brahmins, with Supreme sacred chant enchanted arrows and darts (these are called astras in Sanskrit). They were few in numbers. Had they come to India with guns, Indian history might have been totally different. White servants of the White Brahmins were white kshatriyas, and were regarded as warriors, to defend their white masters, white Brahmins. The white Kshatriyas were given limited access to vEdas and magic chants of arrows and darts.

They did not want to inter-breed with Indian natives who were wheatish and black. In the internecine battles between Nordics and South European migrants through Egypt-Ethiopian-Arabian Sea route (these were phallus worshippers), gradually white warriors died. Some white Brahmins too died.

Gradually white migrants both Nordics and South European whites, realised that there was a need to admit red, yellow and black Indians into the Aryan Society. Thus, we have got the red kshatriyas (soldiers), yellow vysyas, black SUdras, described in the Vyasa Mahabharata verse quoted above.

MUTUAL DEPENDENCE OF WHITE ARJUNA AND BLACK KRISHNA

Krishna has demonstrated (made people to believe) that he has some super-human super-natural powers. White Arjuna wanted to derive benefits from these superhumans powers of Krishna, and became his brother-in-law, by marrying his sister Subhadra. Krishna was aware though he has his weapon special-boomarang (Sanskrit: cakra), he did not have the arrows-darts with magical chants such as pAsupata, brahmAstra. Krishna wanted to become a relative of white rulers, to which Arjuna belongs. Thus, their interdependence started. It ended with the Mixed Breed Prince (White Arjuna+ Black Subhadra = mixed breed Abhimanyu, and his son parIkshit) becoming the ultimate successor to the throne. King Parikshit had an early death, owing to a snake bite. Mahabhagavata is the gist of preachings by Sage Suka to King Parikshit. Son of Parikshit, Janamejaya had a deep-rooted hatred towards snakes. The Epic Mahabharata is a narration by Vyasa's disciple VaiSampAyana to JanamEjaya. Naturally, it sings the paeans of their principal ancestors Arjuna and Krishna.

Krishna knew that becoming a brother-in-law of white Arjuna, was to their mutual advantage, because alone he could not get rid of his bete noir Jarasantha. By giving his sister Subhadra to Arjuna, Krishna could not only get rid of Jarasantha with the help of Arjuna's brother Bhima, but also ultimately he could make his nephew Abhimanyu's son Parikshit, succeed to the Kuru Dynasty.

QUESTION: HOW DID BLACK KRISHNA BECAME GOD?

With not much further migrations from Nordics and South Europe, white warriors gradually died out, while the While white Brahmins survived without participating in battles. With their self-claims and self-glories magic chants, they strengthened themselves as agents between Gods and Humans, conducting sacrifices, sending prayers to Gods in Sanskrit langauge, in exchange for gold, cows, houses, and cash.

The place of the White Warriors has been occupied by Red-yellow-black warriors. When Yadava Kings have started dominating the Malva Region (present day Rajasthan, Gujarat, Western MP, Hariyana), Krishna's role in Mahabharata and Maha Bhagavata has been raised multi-fold and Arjuna was partially reduced to servility to Krishna.

About Arjuna's racial and body-color-consciousness, we have to write more. To continue.

Subject to corrections and deletions. A lot more is to be added. To continue. सशेष. ఇంకా ఉంది.

746 Is it true that worshippers of phallus Lord Shiva will attain Shiva's abode, while the worshippers of idol Shiva will get only ordinary heavens?

This is in continuation of our blogpost No. 680 Click if you wish to study 680 . TV 9 Telugu Channel broadcast a mukhAmukhi (person-to-person) interview with Shri Chaganti Koteswara Rao, one of the top Telugu Religious-Discourse Speakers in Telugu language, at about 7.30 p.m., on 8th May 2016. He has, also recently, been appointed as a Consultant to Government of Andhra Pradesh. This interview lasts nearly 45 minutes. TV9 Interviewer was Shri Jaffer. I accidentally happened to view it. For the benefit of our Readers, I provide a Link for those who wish to see it: Click to go to youtube+tv9 . Shri Jaffer, though somewhat hesitantly, but discreetly, tried to obtain answers, for some of the controversial questions, for which he wanted to obtain clear answers from Shri Koteswara Rao garu.

At this moment, I can only say that Shri Chaganti Koteswara Rao garu, endeavoured to steer away from controversies, and fairly succeeded in it. But, we must keep in mind, the controversies remain as they are, or will aggravate, because everything in this world, India, Andhra Pradesh are directed by the invisible ghost of 'A MONETISED ECONOMY'. As Karl Marx had pointed out, all human activities are ' economic / monetary / pecuniary ' activities. All these activities are like 'forced steps' in a game of chess. There is no escape. History also shows that nobody could escape.

Scripture Discourse-speakers like Shri Chaganti Koteswara Rao, Shri Samavedam Shanmukha Sharma, Shri Garikapati Narasimha Rao, et al. they seem to follow one standard practice: Stick to scriptures. Quote that scripture, which is convenient for their argument. They do not question what is contained in the scriptures, even where deficiencies are CLEARLY VISIBLE, because, organisers of discourses, audiences of discourses, do not allow that. Hence, discourse speakers will always swim along the currents and enjoy adulation and prestige. Why incur the wrath of organisers and audiences , by searching for truth(s) and fact(s)?

Of course, for the sake of pluralism, and mutual tolerance, they need not unduly criticise scriptures and verses. They can express their personal view, tell that it is only a personal view, apologise to the organisers and audiences for differing with the standard view. But then, why should anybody experiment?

It is not clear, on what basis, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, has appointed Shri Chaganti Koteswara Rao as a Consultant, while there are many others who are equally eminent. Did they invite applications? Did they conduct interviews? Who has first drafted the Note initiating the procedure for the appointment of the Consultant? What reasons did heshe give, for CONSIDERING THAT THERE IS A NEED FOR A CONSULTANT AT ALL? What are the reasons for CONSIDERING THAT SHRI KOTESWARA RAO IS THE MOST APPROPRIATE PERSON TO BE APPOINTED AS CONSULTANT? It will be better, if somebody applies for this information under RTI Act and places it on Net.

Notes: I am not FOR or AGAINST Shri Koteswara Rao's appointment. He may be the best person for becoming a Consultant. But, has the Government of Andhra Pradesh clearly defined the role of a Consultant? Are there Consultants for Alien Religions also?

On 8th May 2016, before I went into my father's room, to help him watch TV Channels, I was breaking my head on how PHALLUS WORSHIP (also: phallic worship) has started and got popularised in India. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, might have adeptly reconstructed the mythological and historical origins and eventual sequences of phallic worship in India, vis-a-vis Vishnu worship in India. I was convincing myself that I am too incapable and incompetent to do it.

QUESTION: Say categorically and unambiguously, whether you support the practice of phallic worship actively prevalent even in the 21st Century India.

Ans: I do not want to criticise 'phallic-worship' in India, 21st Century, in its present form. Reasons:

1. The crucial question here is NOT " whether phallic worship is justified or not. ". The real question is, whether to believe in Gods(Goddesses) or not. This question, we have to explore truth, without hurting the current environment of PLURALISM, and RESPECTING THE FAITHS AND BELIEFS OF OTHERS. Not only that, we should not impose or try to impose our views on others, but also even try to present our views to others and convince them UNASKED. The main advantage of BLOGGING in this respect is, it fulfils both the requirements. Pressing back button is always available. Readers are free to press BACK-BUTTON at any moment, if they find that something which disturbs their beliefs and faiths, is being given UNASKED.

2. Most of those in India, who pray before a stone phallus, do not VIEW it or CONSDIER it as a male sexual organ of Lord Shiva, and pAnavaTTam as female sexual organ of Goddess Parvati. For their eyes, the phallus represents Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

3. A study done by me on Internet about the criticism against Indians, about their practice of phallus worship, has revealed that most of such criticism is from FANATICS AND PREACHERS of alien religions. Their intention apparently is, either to belittle Indian Culture, or to convert people, by highlighting one several thousand year old inherited practice as something totally abominable, and despicable. What they are doing is without GOOD FAITH. Critics should criticise with a clean mind. As long as the idea is to insult other religions, convert people of other religions into one's own religion, the GOOD FAITH will be missing.

4. As a part of my studies, on human sexual behaviors, I have seen thousands of pornographic videos and read pornographic stories, both Indian, and the Global. What I have found in most of them, is the OMNIPRESENCE OF ORAL SEX in bulk of the videos, and the stories. The size of PORNO INTERNET is three times the size of ALL OTHER INTERNET PAGES COMBINED TOGETHER. The entire world, including the so called Developed World and the Great-Civilised World of Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, is enamoured with LICKING and SUCKING SEXUAL ORGANS.

I do not wish to say oral sex is abominable or honorable or daily repeatable. This is because such criticism goes against the very idea of human-rights, human-freedoms. Human Sexual Behaviors are bound to be DIVERGENT, and it is also part of SEXUAL PLURALISM, just as we have RELIGIOUS PLURALISM, in the arena of GODs(Goddesses)..

What I wish to highlight is: If the so-called enlightened Great Citizens of the Developed Alien Religious World can day-in and day-out indulge in LICKING AND SUCKING, what is wrong if some culture, which follows ancient traditions inherited and evolved over Centuries, and that too imported from the same Europe continues a custom of STONE PHALLUS WORSHIP without KNOWING OR CONSIDERING THAT IT REPRESENTS A SEXUAL ORGAN?

5. Now, the same Developed World and the Great-Civilised World of Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, which is ENAMOURED with LICKING and SUCKING, FINDING fault with Indians worshipping stone phalluses goes against the Bible maxim Luke 6:42:

New Living Translation
How can you think of saying, 'Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,' when you can't see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye.

Everybody in the RICH and DEVELOPED WORLD knows that, both male and female sexual organs are also associated with urine. Owing to this, they appear somewhat dirty. Simultaneously, humans may also recognise that they perform a sacred duty of cleansing human bodies, and also help humans to produce their off-springs. This might have led to phallus-worship during the process of human evolution.

6. One significant thing, which most Euro-American-ANZ great developed citizens who denigrate Indians as phallus worshippers, do not know that phallus worship spread from Europe to India. In our previous blog posts, readers may find a view that Aryans migrated from Scandinavia and Baltics to India through Iran, Iraq, and Bactria. But, there is not enough evidence to believe that phallus worship existed in Baltics. On the other hand phallus worship seems to have existed in Italy and Greece. Though Christianity tried to eradicate the pre-Christian Culture and erase the pre-Christian History of Europe, Universities there can try to reconstruct their past, instead of just hanging around the Medieval Christian practices.

7. The migrants from South Europe to India, can also be considered as Aryans, and they have brought the phallic worship into India. Histories of Europe and United States show that migrants from Europe to United States, fought among themselves in USA, while at the same time despising the American Indians and pushing them to Northwest States like Indiana. In the same manner, North European Aryans (Vishnu worshippers) and the South European Aryans (Phallus worshippers) fought among themselves in India, while at the same time despising Native Asian Indians and pushing them deep South into the peninsula and also to the South East Asia.

8. It may be found that most of the demons in Indian Mythology happen to be devotees of Lord Shiva and were dedicated phallus worshippers. Examples: Ravana. All the three important scriptures of Indian Mythology happen to be in praise of Lord Vishnu.

9. We shall, now, see the Vyasa Mahabharata verse (Book 12 , Book of PEACE, shAnti parva). Chapter 185. Verse No. 105. This is an important verse, for Indian Mythology and Indian History, for discussing their evolutions. I am also giving the verse in Telugu script and Telugu language for the benefit of the Telugu Land Readers.

English essence of the tikkana's Telugu verse, as far as colors of castes, and body colors are concerned, is same as Vyasa's original.

In post No. 680, I have used the verse to indicate that because Aryans were white, they allocated the WHITE color to their bodies, treating themselves as BRAHMINS (general meaning priest class or priest class. Literal meaning: Those who know the Supreme Spirit), and making themselves the TOPMOST caste, in the four caste hierarchy (cAtur varNyam). If Aryans were natives of India, black/fair/wheat colored Indians, the Black-fair Indians ought to have been given Top 1 status. White persons must have been given No. 4. Red persons= 2nd rank. Yellow persons= 3rd rank. Because the Aryans were white, they allocated No. 1 rank to "white" bodies persons. This sufficiently substantiates the idea that Aryans migrated into India from the White World, and not vice versa. Some black-fair-wheat Indians might have migrated to Europe in Ancient/Medieval times. But Black-fair-wheat persons never got first rank in the European hierarchies. The few Black-fair-wheat Indians who migrated to Europe might have got in Europe only a menial treatment.

In post No. 680, I could not sufficiently explain why Kshatriyas (Warriors) were given 'red' bodies, Vysyas (Merchants) were given 'yellow bodies'. Sudras (servants, small farmers, laborers) getting 'black' bodies is understandable.

I can give one explanation now: Those early batches of White Aryans who migrated into India, declared themselves as Brahmins, No. 1 rank, white color. Being No. 1 caste, they exempted themselves from physical labor, low-level soldier jobs. Higher level military jobs such as (Commissioned Officers in modern Armies such as Generals, Lieutenant Generals, Major Generals, etc.), they did not mind to take up. E.g.: drONa, aSvaththAma, kripAcArya in Mahabharata. They also reserved and restricted for themselves the astra-vidya (perceived art of empowering ordinary arrows and darts with magic chants such as brahmAstra, nArAyaNAstra, pASupata, etc.). For this reason only ParaSurama refused to take Karna as a disciple. Valmiki Ramayana proved the Brahmin VasishTha's superiority over King VisvAmitra.

The North Indians were relatively RED-der in complexion, when compared to Eastern Indians (yellow) and Southern Indians (fair-black). Hence, the North Indians were admitted into Aryanism, accorded RED colored bodies, made warriors (with or without astra-vidya) , and were called kshatriyas.

Yellow castes and tribes of Central and East India were given 'yellow' color. They were made merchants and medium farmers.

Fair-black colored Indians were made Sudras (servants, laborers and marginal farmers).

These classifications might have evolved during any time between or throughout 1000 BC to 500 A.D.

We must always remember that 21st Century castes Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vysyas, Sudras, Yadavs, Kayasthas, etc. etc. are all mixed persons. We cannot call them Aryans or Dravidians or some body else , in a pure sense.

BACK TO PHALLIC WORSHIP

We have already seen that it is imported from South Europe. North European Aryans (Vishnu worshippers) and the South European Aryans (phallus worshippers), though fought with one another, have also exchanged their practices of worship, and started tolerating one another. For this reason only, Vyasa Mahabharata, is only a Vishnu scripture, in its DroNa Parva (Volume 7), in its fag end, has sufficient number of verses, which glorify the merits of worshipping Lord Shiva in a PHALLUS FORM. I am quoting just one verse as a sample:

Book 7, Chapter 203, Verse 140. 7-203-140 పూజయేద్విగ్రహం యస్తు లింగం చాపి మహాత్మనః।
లింగం పూజయితా నిత్యం మహతీం శ్రియమశ్నుతే॥

ENGLISH GIST
Idol or symbol (phallus) can be worshipped. The word mahAtma (Great soul) applies to Arjuna. Sage Vyasa was telling Arjuna.
But, worshipping phallus will do great(er) good.

Context in Mahabharata. The Commander of Kaurava forces, Dronacharya was killed by DhrishTadyumna. Arjuna found one strange person walking before him and his chariot.

When Sage Vyasa visited Pandavas, Arjuna sought a clarification from Sage Vyasa about the strange person who was leading him everywhere. Sage Vyasa told him that the strange person was Lord Shiva (also known as mahAdEva, Shankara et al). All the time Lord Shiva, while though surrounding him invisibly, was protecting Arjuna.

Sage Vyasa preached a set of hymns called SATA RUDRIYAM (Hymn to 100 Lord Shivas) to Arjuna. Vyasa explained in detailed the importance of worshipping Shiva in a phallic form.

The other verses in drONa parva, which stress the greatness of phallus-worship, I shall add here later.

TAIL PIECE धूमकेतु తోక చుక్క

Every Friday, morning at 9.30 a.m. All India Radio, Vijayavada Station, in a program called 'sAhitya sravanti', broadcasts a series of scholarly lectures on Mahabharata.

In one of such lectures, broad cast at 9.30 a.m., on 6th May 2016 Friday, the Discourse Orator explained the last part of DrONa parva (Book 7 of Mahabharata). After narrating the episode of Sage vyAsa explaining to Arjuna, the reason for the strange person preceding and leading Prince Arjuna, the Orator concluded by saying (as per my listening and perception. I may be wrong. Readers may correct me) :

Those who worship Lord Shiva in his phallic form, will go to Shiva's abode i.e. kailAsa, also called rudra lOka. Those who worship Lord Shiva in his ordinary form (human like form ? River Ganga on hairlocks, Crescent moon in hair locks, Third eye and ash on forehead, Snake King vAsuki as garland, tiger skin as waist garment etc. etc.) will go to other heavens such as svarga (ordinary heaven ruled by Indra).

He also added that drONa, being a Brahmin went to Brahma's abode (Creator's world, also called satya lOka).

I am unable to trace the relative verses in Book 7 drONa Parva, which specifically mention that phallic worship will give superior Shiva's abode rudralOka-kailAs, and that idol worshippers will get ONLY ordinary Indra's heavens.

I have already clarified to my friend Race Gurram that our blog is not a devotional blog. Yet, somehow, I am spending lot of my resources and time on these devotional things. We have to shift to Socio-Economic Problems of India.

One clarification: Idol worship, phallic worship have their AUDIO-VISUAL value, though they may not have any real value, as the very existence of a God itself needs deeper investigation. Hence, there should be no need for fanatics and preachers of alien religions to insult Indian Culture. Instead, the preachers and fanatics of alien religions should feel ashamed that they are doing their religious propaganda on a very very narrow philosophic or investigative base. While it will be better for Indians to become irreligious, if not atheistic, as that will save lot of resources, labor, expenditure, space, they need not get much agitated. They can also continue their existing cultural practices, without taking them to their extremities. Path of Reformation i.e. we can call "sanskaraNa yOga" will be better.

In the following paragraphs, I have used three languages (English, Hindi, and Telugu) and their scripts. Matter is nearly same.

English1. Our EOD (Emperor of Discourses) prefers to quote Sanskrit Verses and Telugu poems ceaselessly to drive his messages into the heads of his audiences. We should greatly appreciate his hardwork in keeping a repertory of numerous verses in his memory and inundating the ears and minds of the spectators like recent floods in Chennai. The listeners will be left with little oppportunity or time to think over the content or veracity of the expressions and ideas in the verses. We shall now take one example.

EnglishOur Emperor of Discourser, explaining the importance of "annam parabrahma svarUpam (Food in general- and in particular the staple food of boiled rice in Andhra Pradesh is the personification of the Supreme Spirit)" and the importance of "atithi dEvO bhava (Guest is God)", has quoted the example of King Ranti Deva of Maha Bhagavata.

Context & English Gist for the benefit of those who do not know Telugu: Ranti dEva was a great ancestral king of India. I do not remember the exact context, but the king was in a forest, hungry and thirsty. He was tired, and was in need of food and water. But at the same time an outcast nearby approached him for food and water. King spoke to the outcase, offering the water he himself was about to drink: I have no food (left with me). I have some sweet drops of water. Drink these. There can be no greater noble act and virtue than going to the rescue of a person in danger. The Supreme Lord (called with the attribute purushOttama here, which means the greatest of all) will be my rescue and resort.

EnglishWe shall now see what Vyasa MahAbhArata says about the same Ranti dEva king. Context: Ranti dEva's felicitations to Priests, during a four month period of rainy season called "cAtur mAsa vrat (The vow of Four Months)". Everyday the king got 2000 bulls slaughtered and fed the beef to the Priests who were his guests, with great reverence. Relevant proof from vyAsa mahAbhArat:

Note: The word paSu includes all four legged cattle, both white and black, i.e. cows, bullocks, buffaloes, male buffaloes etc. Detailed analyses of some Vyasa Mahabharata verses can be seen at my Mahabharata blog Click to go to 002 of mahabharatayb.blogspot.com. . However, 14th Century Telugu poet YerrA pragaDa's Telugu translation clearly says "gO sahasrambulu" = 2,000 cows. Hence the two thousand "paSus" everyday could be both cows-bulls and s(he) buffaloes.

EnglishHow 13th Century Telugu poet Yerrapraggada treated these verses in his Telugu translation of vyAsa mahAbharatam?

3-5-054 phala mUlaushadhi Sakam
bulu paSu mriga tatulu bhakshyamulugA bhUtam
bula kajuDu cEse nani a-
askhalitambuga mrOyu Sritulu kAdana vaSame!

English gist: How can we say "No?". ajuDu = Creator. Smritis= Scriptures. phala = fruits. mUla = roots. aushadhi = herbs. SAkambulu = vegetables. paSu = animals and cattle. mriga = animals, particularly forest animals like deer. tatulu = etc. bhakshyamulugA = as edibles. bhUtambulaku = for creatures. Creator has made fruits, roots, herbs, vegetables, cattle, deer, etc. animals, as food for (his) creatures. Our scriptures say this indelibly. How can we say No ?

Verse 055. anagha ausInarunDagu Sibi nija gAtra himsa indrAgnula

Emperor Sibi gave his own body's flesh as meat to the Chief of Demy Gods Indra, and the Fire God agni, through violence against himself. Did he not get divine heavens?

ranti dEvunDanu rAju tolli anu dinambunu

King Ranti Deva every day killed two thousand cows, for thousand years! Did sin attach to that Great Soul?

Great Chief Priests (Here adjective used is "Chief among Gods on the Earth = Important persons among priests ) who are experts in the meaning of Vedas, and who are great adherents of rules, won't they kill animals in sacrifices? Won't they get divine endings (divine heavens)? Won't we hear in scriptures that Fires (Fire Gods) ask for more meats and fleshes?

ybrao-a-donkey says here: All this is North European (Aryan-migrant) stuff. God prescribed animals and birds as food for creatures is a very very old rotten argument. A better argument at least in 21st Century: Monkey-evolved-human, is tired of his-her fruits and wanted to alternate them with meats and fleshes. Then s(he) added them to the diet. To justify it, they added God's sanction. Whom do the religious humans want to impress-upon by bringing God's sanctions to something, which they did on their own, for their own cApalyams (idio syncracies and whims)? Here vyAsa in Mahabharata ( VyAsa according to many scholars, is a post. Not a single individual's name. In other words beef eating priests who edited the Epic wanted to beat the Jains and Buddhists for raising the issue of Non-violence. The stick used for beating is God's Sanction. God himself will be satisfied with the meats and fleshes, and he himself grants the divine heavens and worlds to the sacrificers who feed the Priests with beef, and the Priests themselves who feed on the beef. As already pointed out the Earliest Indians were vegetarians, and non-violent persons as progenies of monkeys. They did not like the invading and migrating Aryans to indulge in reckless killing.).

056.
pitru daivata kAryamulan
dati bhaktini mAmsa miDuTa arhamaniyou tat
daiva vishEshamulu sa-
sammati bhOjyamulaniyu munula matamulu kAvE.

Won't sages opine that in commemorials (death anniversaries) it will be very appropriate to feed Ancestors (Ancestors are regarded as Gods), with meats and fleshes, with great devotion, and that those divine special offerings are fit for eating (by those who are present at the ceremonies)?

057.
hatiku Dentayu OjatO tunaga sIrAgrambu nan jOki

martyulu nEla carimcu cO padamulan trokkam baDu
pekku jantulu himsA vidhi kAdananga galame dOshagna yUhincuma!

Oh knower-of-guilts (Knower of Sins and non-sins), imagine! Howsoever carefully, a hAtik (probably a controlling rider of elephants) may move his animal, some animals die under its feet (this translation ybrao is not sure. To be corrected). You tell whether it is true or not? Why thousand words? When we move, under our feet several animals (ants etc.) fall and die. Should we say no (for moving) in the name of violence?

ybrao-a-donkey says: This is an Aryan jibe against the opponents of violence, probably digambara sect of Jains of those days, who swept floor with a broom while-before walking, to prevent tromping on small creatures and killing them inadevertantly.

058. salilamu urvi yAkasamu sarvamu jantu mayamba kAvuna (water, earth, sky, everything is full of animals. Hence)

kalugu avaSyamun sakala dharmamu landun himsa himsakun (hence violence will take place in all religions)

tolagina dEha yAtrayunu durghaTa mainaTu lunDu intayun (Without violence, the journey of life becomes difficult to pursue. This,)

talaparu himsa sEyamani tAru talanturu kondar immahin. (Some people do not think even this much. They, on this earth believe, that they do not commit violence).

This is also a North European (Aryan) quip against Ancient Indians (probably Ancient Jains).

058. pani paDi ahimsa vratamuga goni (Artificially creating for themselves, non-violence as a vow,)

vanamuna nunna munulakun toDarade him- (Those hermits who live in forests, won't they get sin of violence)

sanamu taru mUla phala SA- (when they dig at the root of plants for tubors, when they pluck fruits and vegetables)

kana nipIDana mariyu himsa kAdoko talapan. (and all that, is n't violence when we consider carefully!)

YBRAO A DONKEY SAYS: Here the word 'munis' probably meant Jain Hermits and, NOT HINDU SAGES WHO ATE MEATS.

060.

In this Universe, there is nobody who does not commit violence. Persons have to proceed according to their endurances, keeping away from the path of violence. That will shine as non-violence.

ybrao-a-donkey says: According to Errana (and vyAsa) there is nobody in this world, who does not do any type of violence. These concepts need extensive and intensive discussion. But not at this time, when there are more serious problems confronting India such as mass hunger, mass deprivation, mass disease and mass suffering. This item deserves discussion after society takes a paradigm shift from survival and security needs to needs of esteem, and self-actualisation (See Maslow's need hierarchy).

The context in which the Vyasa Mahabharata referred to Andhras (Telugu speaking people might have perhaps been called Andhras in those days), we are going to discuss shortly.

What sort of man are you? Of all the incidents of Yudhisthira's life, you remember only his seeing hell. You don't remember his truthfulness, his forbearance, his patience, his discrimination, his dispassion, his devotion to God.' I was about to say many more things, when Hriday stopped my mouth. After a little while Jatindra left the place, saying he had some other business to attend to.

2.It isn't good to be clever. The crow is very clever, but it eats others filth.'

3.The right intelligence is that through which one attains God; but the intelligence that enables one to become a deputy magistrate or a lawyer, or to acquire a house, is a mean intelligence. It is like thin and watery curd, which merely soaks flattened rice but does not add any flavour to it. It is not like thick, superior curd. But the intelligence through which one attains God is like thick curd." ...

Just as people are afraid of exploring and speaking truth about Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, and Swami Vivekananda, people are equally afraid of thinking or exploring about YudhishThira (dharma rAja). Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in the above quote, is very convinced about the discriminative abilities of Yudhishthira. This is probably because his convictions are based on anecdotes he heard from preachers and discoursers (ప్రవచనకర్తలు प्रवचनकार). We shall see from Vyasa's Sanskrit Mahabharata:-
Vyasa MahabhArata , Sabha Parva (Book 2 dealing with Assemblies), Chapter 85 (deals with the betting and gambling process between YudhishThira and Sakuni), verses 17 to 19.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE ABOVE SANSKRIT VERSES BY KISHORE MOHAN GANGULY, slightly modified by me.
Yudhishthira said,--‴I have a hundred thousand serving-girls, all young, and decked with golden bracelets on their wrists and upper arms, and with coins round their necks and other ornaments, adorned with costly garlands and attired in rich robes, daubed with the sandal paste, wearing jewels and gold, and well-skilled in 64 arts, especially versed in dancing and singing, and who wait upon and serve at my command the celestials, the Snataka Brahmanas, and kings. With this wealth, I will stake with you !‴

How did 11th Century CE Telugu translator of Mahabharata, the great Nannaya mahAkavi handled this scene? నన్నయగారు శ్రీ మదాంధ్ర మహాభారతం, సభా పర్వంలో దీనిని ఎలా అనువదించారు.

Vyasa, in Chapter 85 of Book 2 (Sabha parvam, Adhyayam 85) used 40 verses to describe how betting between Yudhishthira and Sakuni. Vyasa maintained a depictive drama. Nannaya, disposed off the whole process in seven lines of prose given above. Nannaya wrote yOshita sahasrambulu which means 1000 girls. Vyasa's verse 2-85-18 mentions 100,000 girls. Vyasa described them as apart from being decorated, and adorned, as experts in 64 arts. Nannaya condensed everything. Nannaya used one attribute to describe Yudhishthira: "baddha matsarunDu" = "one who is bound by envy". In my humble opinion, Nannaya should have either adhered to original of Vyasa or alternatively used the adjective "durASA baddhunDu" = "one who is bound by greed" which aptly describes YudhishThira's State of Mind at that time. Anyway these are all minor abherrations. It will be suffice to say that those who want to explore probable facts and truths should analyse Vyasa Mahabharata instead of depending on Indian Language translations.

Why I am writing this is, All India Radio (AkASa vANi), Vijayawada Station, is every Friday morning at 9.30 broadcasting a Mahabharata analysis program based on Telugu Bharatam. Better thing ought to have been: comparing both Vyasa and Andhra Mahabharatas.

Back to wreckless betting of 100,000 girls made by Yudhishthira: As ybrao-a-donkey my mind thinks on behalf of the working class. Okay, let Yudhishthira bet himself, his own brothers including his step-brothers, their common wife. We shall concede his right for the time being. But does Yudhishthira have a right to gamble with the lives of servant girls? Are they slaves? Are they bettable commodities?

Now, our Great Preacher Ramakrishna Paramahamsa says that Yudhishthira's truthfulness, his forbearance, his patience, his discrimination, his dispassion, his devotion to God were not seen by the visitor Hriday or Jatin.

This is not the sole instance of Yudhishthira lacking discriminating abilities, particularly when he is caught by covetousness a la Dhritarashtra. These negative instances outnumber the instances where Yudhishthira acted with equanimity and justice. One such rare positive instance is Yaksha prasnalu (Yaksha's Questions) episode in the Book of Forests (Aranya Parvam). These yaksha prasnalu were already dealt with in our blog post No. 153.
