1128 MCQ TESTS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS

EURACANZ (Europe, America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand): Are they fighting a war against China, in Hong Kong? :
♛The present unrest in Hongkong started when the Hongkong Government introduced a bill for extraditing criminal-accused-persons to Mainland China. The Hongkong Administration withdrew the Extradition Bill. But the Unrest in Hongkong is continuing, and aggravating. Why? ♝
♛According to ybrao-a-donkey's perception, the latent reason appears to be a September 2019 attempt of Hongkong and China, to purchase the London Stock Exchange for $39 billion. ♝
♛Unable to bear this Financial Markets invasion, EURACANZ countries seem to be instigating the Hongkong Street Demonstrators to rebel, by providing financial support, and by misleading Youth. This is only a suspicion.♝
♛If Hongkong and China are going to succeed in their capturing the London Stock Exchange, next on the guillotine will be New York Stock Exchange.♝
♛Chinese Rulers may have poor memory. But, the Rest of the World should not have a poor memory. In October 1962, Chinese Army pounced at midnight on the Unsuspecting Indian Territories of Ladakh and NEFA (now Arunachal Pradesh) and occupied approx. 36,000 sq.km. of Indian Territory. If China is going to prefer a Financial Invasion on India, instead of a military Invasion, Hongkong Stock Exchange may try to buy out BSE or NSE. (91003)♝

LIQUOR BOTTLES: are being distributed free in Andhra Pradesh, today i.e. 30th Sept. 2019 :
♛In the past, liquor addicts used to complain that liquor was being sold in Wineshops at rates exceeding MRP (Maximum Retail Price). Today 30th Sept. 2019 is different.♝
♛Today is the last day for Private Wineshops. From 1st Oct. 2019, Government of Andhra Pradesh will run the Wine Shops.♝
♛From 1st Oct. 2019, all the Private Shops have to surrender all their stocks to Govt. free of cost (Govt. will not pay anything). Private Dealers cannot keep more than 6 bottles with them because that is the maximum limit for a person to hold in possession.♝
♛Dealers, instead of surrendering the stocks to the Government, are preferring to distributing them free to Public, probably to get some popularity.♝
♛One dealer is reported to have said: I had excess stock. I can't keep more than six bottles. Why I should give them to Govt.? I am giving them free to my friends and relatives.♝

INDIAN GOVERNMENT'S DISINVESTMENT OPERATIONS, some personal musings. :
♛According to News Reports, Govt. is on a Sleepless Mission to sell its Public Sector Units, both Profit Making and Loss Making. Disinvestment is on the anvil, both in Robust and Sick Government Companies.♝
♛Indian Industrialists may come forward to purchase even Sick Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) because they have valuable Urban Lands which can be developed into Real Estate, both Housing and Commerical.♝
♛Funniest part: Such Indian Industrialists do not buy the PSUs by investing funds from their own Pockets. They borrow from Public Sector Banks. If the adventures of the Indian Industrialists misfire, losses fall on Public Sector Banks. And the losses of the PSBs are made good by the Government through RECAPITALISATIONs. Thus, if something is sick in Public Sector, that will remain with the Government only through a circuitous route.♝
♛Many Private Sector Industrialists could recover back their investments by fudging Profit & Loss Accounts and Annual Balance Sheets. They could easily manipulate the Share Prices of their Companies in BSE/NSE, and palm of their overvalued shares to Gullible Foreign Institutional Investors, and the Indian Public Sector Mutual Funds. ♝
♛Indian Private Sector Companies also whether healthy or sick, own large swathes of lands in Cities and Metros. When Foreign Investors buy shares in Indian Companies whether through FDI route, or FPI route or through some other route, they become indirect owners of the lands belonging to the Indian Companies. ♝
♛This type of self-selling does not appear to have been done by Pakistani Companies. The result is, Pakistan seems to be facing a Foreign Exchange Payments crisis.♝
♛India sold itself (=its lands through Company shares), and is having a bloated body, which is not good for its long term Health. India seems to be riding a tiger. It can neither continue to ride, nor alight from the tiger. In both cases it will be devored by the tiger. Mr. Manmohan Singh and his successors should take responsibility for this. (9930)♝

COAL SUPPLIES FROM SINGARENI COLLIERIES- Jagan's request :
♛There is a proverb in Telugu: ekkaDainA bAvE gAni, vanga tOTalO bAva kADu. Approx. English: A person may be a brother-in-law anywhere, but not in a brinjal garden. Relevant anecdote: A person went to his wife's brother's brinjal garden, oneday. There, he liked the brinjals on the plant, and plucked some, to have curry made by his wife i.e. the sister of the garden's owner. While leaving, the garden owner asked his sister's husband to pay the price of brinjals. The sister's husband thought that his brother-in-law would gift him brinjals. But, the brother-in-law said "ekkaDainA bAvE gAni, vanga tOTalO bAva kADu."♝
♛Everybody knows the amitie proche (=close friendship) between the A.P. Chief Minister Mr. Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. ♝
♛Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao wanted thouands of tmcs. of lifting of Andhra Area Polavaram Godavari waters through Telangana to Sri Sailam Project. Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, believed to be a Feudatory of Mr. KCR readily agreed for it, without consulting the Opposition Parties in Residual Andhra Pradesh. ♝
♛Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy is expected to be a Lieutenant to Mr. KCR in his fight with the Ruling BJP at Centre.♝
♛In harassing Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu , the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh to extreme levels, Mr. Jagan seems to be getting directions from Mr. KCR. Every dog will have its own day. Now, these are the bad days for Mr. Naidu. Ships can become carts, and carts can become ships. (9930)♝

P

PAKISTHAN PRESIDENT has to explain :
♛Pakisthan President has to explain why the population of Non-Muslims in Pakisthan fell from 23% in 1947 to 1.5% in 2019? Assuming that Freedom Struggle and Independence of East Pakistan which has a slightly higher rate of non-Muslims, into Bangla Desh in 1971, has caused the fall in New Pakistan, it can't go down to as low as 1.5%. The drastic fall shows that Non-Muslims in Pakistan were forced to convert to Islam or leave the country, through disincentives, discriminatory treatment, and harassment. The Hindu population in Bangla Desh too dwindled owing to persecution and harassment.♝
♛While some Indian rulers seem to yearn divide India into Hindu and non-Hindus, Mr. Imran Khan itches to divide the World into Muslims and Non Muslims.♝
♛EURACANZ (Europe+ America, Canada, Australia+ Newzealand) seems to make the entire Earth a Christian Planet. Attempts of the EURACANZ Missionaries in the name of Service, to convert non-Christians into Christianity through monetary inducement and fallacious propaganda, has resulted in generation of insecurity in the Non-Christian World. Islamic World took it seriously and just as a tortoise tries to hide itself within its shells, Islamic people were made to hide themselves behind the preachings of Islamic Clerics and Mullahs.♝
♛India was never a Martial Country. Indians were never war-mongerers. In fact, their love for non-violence, probably owing to the precepts of Gautama Buddha and Vardhaman Mahavira, Indians did not evolve themselves into bellegerence. Consequently for thousands of years they faced invasions from numerous races from Arabia, Persia, Turkey, South Europe, North Europe, Baltics and Central Asia. Though suffering various degrees of slavery from these races, Indians every invader-race-tribe into the country, and evolved into a Newer Nation. Of course, it also resulted in birth of an obnoxious Caste System.♝
♛The entry of the two grossly greedy proselytizing Religions having their Headquarters in Mecca, Rome, England (&Europe,America) brought a sweeping change in the Social Structure of India. (9930) ♝

E
ENFORCEMENT DIRECTORATE AND CBI SEEMS TO HAVE BECOME ONE-SIDED PLIABLE TOOLS IN THE HANDS OF RULING PARTY POLITICIANS. :
♛Everybody in India knows that Indian politicians are corrupt from top to bottom. This is irrespective of the Parties they belong to . As Politicians hop from one party to another just as crows fly from one tree to another, there is very little among them to distinguish. ♝
♛The latest in the ED's adventure is: Registering of a case against /or naming Senior Maharashtra NCP Leader and Former Union Minister, Mr. Sharad Powar, in respect of Money Laundering alleged to have been done in Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank.♝
♛One politician commented: "Nearly 75 per cent of those who have taken away the MSCB's monies are now with the BJP-Sena. If the ED claims to be impartial and not working under the government's directions, they should first catch those who siphoned off the bank's funds and now sitting cosy in the ruling party.." ♝
♛ybrao-a-donkey's personal observation: They may be sitting cosy both in Ruling Party and the Opposition Parties. Losers are the People. Reason: Reserve Bank of India has placed restrictions on common people withdrawing more than Rs. 1000/- from the affected MSCB, which has around 150 branches all over the country.♝
♛The question is not whether Mr. Pawar is guilty or not. That, Courts will decide, when proper investigations take place, and Prosecution is done as per Law. The question is why synchronise the booking of Money Laundering Case with Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019? Why so late? What the Ruling Party is doing between May 2014 and Aug. 2019? (9926)♝

F
FATHER OF INDIAN NATION, who? :
♛Mr. Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office, seems to be in a hurry to respond, when he said "Not proud, Not Indian!♝
♛Context: Mr. Donald Trump, calling the Prime Minister of India 'Father of India'. For historical reasons, Indians regard and revere Mahatma Gandhi, as Father of Nation. For them, Patel was Sardar and Man of Steel. Indian children of those days called Jawaharlal Nehru, Chacha Nehru. They were all builders of Indian Nation, along with hundreds of thousands of Freedom Fighters, whether named or unnamed.♝
♛Trump was Head of one of the Powerful countries of the World, owing to its Financial and Military Prowess. He might have wanted to please the Head of the Government of India, who has supported Trump's 2020 American Presidential Candidature. ♝
♛Indians must always treat these 'praises' made by Heads of States, and Heads of Governments, as just transient bubbles of foam. They are just courtesy remarks with no serious intent in them. Serious intent we can identify only when such remarks are made after deep study, and without 'self-interest' in these extolments. Else, they will become only casual compliments, which will be forgotten once the need with the exalted leader vanishes.♝
♛For instance, earlier American President praised Israeli PM Netanyahu as a Great Leader. Once Netanyahu loses election, or ceases to be Israeli PM, he will become a persona non grata to U.S., till such a time he shows prospects of his getting back to Power. We should not forget between 2002 and 2014 when Mr. Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat, US refused to grant him a Visa to enter USA. (9926)♝

G
GOVERNMENTS SHOULD NOT PUNISH UPRIGHT OFFICIALS :
♛Context: Mr. Surendra Babu, an IPS Officer and the Managing Director of (Residual) Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has been abruptly and unceremoniously removed, and has not been given a Posting to join. Mr. Krishna Babu, Principal Secretary, Roads and Buildings was given an Additional Charge.♝
♛Reason is said to be: Mr. Surendra Babu did not yield to the instructions of the Powers that be, to pay a rent of Rs. 60 (approx. $.90) per km. for hiring Private Electronic Buses which are going to be introduced soon. It appears that he was prepared to pay only Rs. 36 (approx. $0.50) per km., in line with the rent paid by the neighboring State Telangana.♝
♛It is not clear why the Government of Residual Andhra Pradesh is in such a hurry. If Mr. Surendra Babu has erred, then the Government should have appointed two independent Committees of COSTING experts to arrive at the basic Fixed Costs + Variable costs + Normal profits of renting an Electronic Bus. ♝
♛Then, the Government should have compared the Reports of the Two Costing Experts Committees to examine similarities and variances. After that it would have become easier to convince Mr. Surendra Babu about the reasonableness of Rs. 36 or Rs. 60 or some via media Rent, per km. ♝
♛I hope that the new Incharge Mr. Krishna Babu will not become a Pliable Tool in the hands of those Powers-that-be. Rulers of Government of Andhra Pradesh whether Politicians or Top Bureaucrats (Chief Secretary etc.) should keep in mind that there will be shortage of Upright Officials, if their morale is affected. Only spoons and stooges will be left out in Command. (9926)♝

F
FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT, does liberalising FDI revive Growth in India? :

♛It must be a matter of extreme regret that even after 71 years of Independence, India is begging for Foreign Investments to promote its Economic Growth.
♛Growth can also be promoted through domestic private investments. Many Industrial Houses like Tatas are investing abroad. Why they are limping in investing in India?
♛India's domestic Industrialists are not invested in Manufacturing. They want easy profits.
♛Government of India can also do some Keynesian Pump-priming, so that Investment and Income Multipliers work.
♛Increase in productive expenditure by GOVERNMENT OF INDIA can also facilitate Income and Investment Multipliers because, Productive Expenditure raises demand for Tangible goods, apart from increasing Factor Incomes. (99618).

HOW RIGHT IS ADMIRAL ARUN PRAKASH, RETD. NAVY CHIEF 2004-06! :
♛Admiral Arun Prakash, delivering Prem Bhatia Memorial Lecture at Delhi on 12th Aug. 2019, is reported to have observed:
♛ China is moving ahead in areas like artificial intelligence and robotics and it would be a waste of time if India distracts itself by talking about temples and mosques.
♛For our whole existence as an independent nation, we have seen and suffered from these fissures — linguistic, religious, caste etc. These conflicts have continued throughout our independent existence.
♛What we need to do is to try and tamp them rather than to exploit them... China is talking about artificial intelligence, robotics and machine learning and all that. And if we are going to talk about temples and mosques and so on, then obviously we are going to waste time.
♛Our actual preparation should have been to ward off Chinese pressure. They don't have to fire a bullet. There are many other ways of pushing India. And if we prepare to counter China, then Pakistan would automatically be taken care of. ybrao-a-donkey: How right is Admiral Arun Prakash! (9913)

EVMS tamperabilities, views of Mr. Kannan Gopinathan, Resigned IAS Officer :
♛The following newsreport from TelegraphIndia.com is worth reading: https://www.telegraphindia.com/india/paper-machine-chink-in-evm-officer/cid/1707423.♝
♛It gives a bird's eyeview of what is done to Electronic Voting Machines used in India, before they are sent to Polling Stations.♝
♛Mr. Kannan Gopinathan was Returning Officer in Dadra Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha Constituency in the 2019 April Lok Sabha Elections. Hence, his observations may be considered as first hand experiences.♝
♛He is reported to have tweeted: "So, you might remember my spirited defence of EVMs. I still stand by it, except that my first election with VVPAT has taken away my trust. VVPAT has created a hole in the EVM armour & made the process amenable to hacking…"♝
♛Another: "...Unlike before, the Ballot Unit (BU) is not connected to Control Unit (CU — Memory of EVM) directly any more. It is connected through VVPAT. Means what you press on that blue button in the BU is not registering the vote in the CU anymore. But what VVPAT communicates to CU is!...". A spokesperson of ECI has responded to the observations of Shri Gopinathan. We shall take up those things some other time, because some waiting is necessary to view how Shri Gopinathan responds to the ECI's Response. (9926)♝

SHRI RAM JANMBHOOMI TEMPLE -PRIME MINISTER WANTS LOUD MOUTHS TO RESPECT [YET TO COME] SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT :

♛Prime Minister, addressing a rally at Nashik on 19th Sept. 2019, ahead of next month's Maharashtra Assembly Elections, did not forget to speak about Shri Ram's BirthPlace Temple at Phyzabad-Ayodhya. ♝

♛He is reported to have said: For God's sake, I request (such) people to trust the judiciary of India. ... I am amazed at the 'bayan bahadurs and badbole' (loudmouths) on the Ram Mandir issue. Everyone in the country respects the Supreme Court. The apex court is hearing the case. I want to tell these people with folded hands to have faith in the judicial system ...♝

♛I hope Shri Narendra Modi is going to respect Supreme Court's judgement.♝

♛I muse: How the Prime Minister is so sure and certain, that the Supreme Court's Judgement is going to come in favor of the Temple-Builders?♝

♛Suppose, the Court's Judgement goes against the Temple Builders, how is he going to convince the RSS and ShivSena? He might have thought about it.♝

914 When will the Communists / Marxists / True Socialists fill this void in this Unipolar Politico-Economic World?

Everybody knows in this unipolar world, there is a philosophical and practical vacuum in the politico-economic sphere. IN SPITE OF ITS EXPLOITATIVE NATURE, Capitalism is ruling the roust. The peculiarity of Capitalism is, its tentacles overlap every other activity in the world including Religion which is supposed to be neither political, nor economic. Besides, Capitalism will not have any scruples, while everybody tries to accumulate moolah by hook or crook in the shortest time. In the process, porn, drugs, homicides, genocides, patricides, fraticides, occupy center space. Everything gets reversed. Non-essential goods become essential, like food, clothing. And essential goods become non-essential. From 1917 Bolshevik Revolution times to the 1949 the Chinese Revolution times, there were expectations that Communism / Marxism / Socialism will find some solace to the suffering masses. Unfortunately, both the Russian and Chinese Models of Communism failed to live upto expectations.

After the collapse of the erstwhile U.S.S.R., and its East European allies in 1991, and the volta facie of China from the Communist path, there is a huge vacuum in the ideological arena which is yet to be filled. Okay, Communism and Communists were dirty denizens of hell and hungry ghosts. But what next, if not Communism / Marxism / Total Socialism ? During the period, dozens of Economists have won Economics Nobel Prizes. Yet, none of the Nobel Laureates could come up with an alternative model to replace the Capitalist Monstrasities, even if conceding that Russian Monstrasities and Chinese Monstrasities will not work. What happened for the outstanding creative and intellectual capabilities of the NObel Laureates, nobody knows! Probably, after receiving the Nobel Prize at the pulpits of the Capitalist Priests, the pandits might have lost their sense of direction, magnitude or zeal.

In India, there is a greater vacuum. Both UPA and NDA failed miserably. In the 2014 May General election for INdian Lok Sabha, people graced great victory to BJP. Two classes of people have contributed to the victory of Mr. Narendra Modi. 1. Religious Hindu fanatics and pseudo Hindutva bigots who were waiting for "achchE din" since the days of Nathuram Godse. 2. Those who were extremely unhappy with the corrupt and misrule by Congress. The candle of Indian Intellect is burning from both the ends, engulfed by overzealous religious charlatans who do not know anything about religion masquerading as sadhus and sants, and the Growth Experts of Share Market Economics who do not know what happens in Indian villages, and nooks and corners of India Cities.

INDIAN COMMUNIST PARTIES ARE NOT READY TO FILL THIS VOID, WHILE THE SOCIALISTS OF EARLY INDEPENDENCE DECADES COOLLY LEFT THIS PLANET

The bane of the Indian Communists is that they could not liberate themselves from their bondage to China, in spite of knowing pretty well that China is no longer a Communist country.

MISERABLE FAILURE OF INDIAN COMMUNISTS EVEN AT PROVINCIAL AND GRASS ROOTS LEVEL

CPIM by its bourgeoisie habits lost its hold in West Bengal. In Kerala, though CPM is in power lading a Front, it has learnt all the life-styles and mind-sets of bourgeoisie parties. In Telugu language, there is a proverb "Aaru nelalu sahavAsam cEstE aTu vALLu iTu avutAru, iTu vALLu aTu avutAru". Its English gist is, if people make friendships for six months, people on "this side" will become "people on that side", and those on "that side" will become people of this side. By giving Rice @ Rs. 1 per kg., by giving 3 BH houses, laptops, smart phones, numerous freebies, bourgeoisie parties are showing the traits of Leftist Parties, thus displacing the Left Parties from their niche places. Here is a link to a Huffingtonpost.in News Report which says that: "Don't Call The CPM In Kerala Communists, Call Them Social Democrats", Click here to go to http://www.huffingtonpost.in/2016/05/31/cpm-kerala-communists-soc_n_10217714.html . A quote from this report is worth studying:

"...Marxists would certainly detest being called social democrats because ideology is what they wax eloquent about and what gives them cover. Everything they do, whether it’s an alleged political murder or taking advertisements from homegrown crony-capitalists, are ideologically sanitised by their formal and informal network of supporters and proxies. Everything, according to them, is part of their long-term plan of a revolutionary project.

Being a mutualist with the neoliberal marketplace is therefore their unavoidable strategy for the triumph of the working class. But, Marxism is certainly not social democracy.

Marxists would certainly detest being called social democrats because ideology is what they wax eloquent about and what gives them cover.

One of the early trends that the media picked up since the CPM came to power in Kerala is the spate of announcements welcoming big businesses to invest in Kerala, encouraging public-private partnerships, and even kickstarting infrastructure projects that have long been shelved for environmental and feasibility reasons. “Left goes right” said a Times of India headline while the Indian Express said “Pinarayi Vijayan’s new Kerala: Silicon Valley-type hubs. A Malayalam newspaper headline quoted the industries minister saying all monopolies are welcome to the state. ..."

Question: Should we call Indian Communists Democrats?

Ans: Indian Communists, are on par with their bourgeoisie counterparts, as far as LACK OF INTERNAL DEMOCRACY in their parties is concerned. Essential pre-requisite quality for a democrat is, ABILITY AND WILLINGNESS TO TOLERATE EXPRESSION OF DISSENT. Indian Communist Parties have, all the traits needed by tyrannical parties. When dissent is not tolerated, and leaders are imposed from above, though ostensibly through unanimous elections, where the official top-sponsored candidate is never challenged, for fear of being alienated and isolated.

Top Communist Leaders shout from roof tops that their parties will not give any value to caste, religion, and local-non-local origin of individuals. That is theory, not intended for practice. Like bourgeoisie parties, they to have their caste/religion/local-non-local preferences, apart from being the sycophants and cronies of the top-leaders. There is nothing wrong, if a political party tries to stall unwanted unscrupulous persons joining their parties, and getting elected party posts. Unscrupulous persons with their mobs entering parties, hyjacking the party elections, bring out a split, stake claims for ownership of party buildings are rather abominal. All the prestigious concrete party buildings raised with the patronage from Ruling Parties through free land, free / cheap sand, cement , steel etc. when they change hand and go into the management of hyjackers, it may cause lot of agony to the promoters, Central and State Leaders. Such situations are not rare, it happened in 1962 India, when Communists split into CPI and CPIM.

For other bourgeoisie parties, totally hyjacking of party's buildings, cash reserves, and capturing their possession, by physically dominant and violent party-factions-leaders is quite common. For example, in Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav and his associates built the Samajvadi Party's assets (such as buildings, bank accounts etc.). But, a relatively a new entrant Akhilesh Yadav and his MLAs could easily hijack them. Natual justice requires that assets of the party are to be shared by both the factions. But, "majority MLAs" (in case of State Level Parties) or "Majority MPs" (in case of National Level Parties) seem to capture the party assets with the active co-operation of Election Commission and Courts.

It happened in 1969 in Congress. The Assets of the Indian National Congress were built over several decades by many generations of leaders. But their assets were snatched away by Mrs. Indira Gandhi and her faction.

It happened in 1994 in TDP. Late Senior NT Rama Rao founded the Telugu Desam Party from the scratch. But, the party, and its assets were snatched away by the MLAs led by Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu.

SHRI TAMMINENI VEERABHADRAM, GENERAL SECRETARY OF TELANGANA STATE CPIM

We have to wait and see what Shri Tammineni Veerabhadram, the General Secretary of the Telangana State who is on a strenuous walkathlon (pAdayAtra) is going to do after completion of his onerous task. !!!

"...CPM state leadership is making efforts to resolve differences cropped up between the two groups in Warangal Urban district unit." --- party in-charge state secretary, G Nagaiah.

"...The attack on the party office on Saturday by some persons as sad..."

"...There are several means to redress one’s grievance on party platform but vandalising the office is not proper. ..."

"... Expelled persons can approach the state committee or the central committee seeking reprieve. ..."

"... In CPM, there is no local and non-local candidate, those chosen by the majority will be made district secretary. If the rival group is against the election, it has to pursue the matter patiently by presenting their case before the party leadership. ..."

ybrao-a-donkey's observations, which are not intended to be imposed on others

1. On numerous occasions, CPI and CPIM have behaved like local parties taking up local issues. For example, CPI's Secretary Mr. Narayana supported Telangana Movement and spoke like a TRS leader. CPIM Secretary Shri Ramakrishna is very keen on getting Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Do CPI and CPIM have the system of elections which are conducted using secret ballots? Is that Mr. Vasudeva Reddy who has been imposed as District Secretary of Warangal, elected through secret ballot? Is everybody in the Party permitted freely to contest elections?

Ordinarily, Communist Parties in at least 25 States of India, do not have prospects of coming to power, or becoming the Main Opposition Parties. But all over the country, they have valuable buildings, shops, other assets. (In Telugu langauge, there is an idiom called "Shivalayam = Lord Shiva Temple", as against the opposite "VishNvAlayam = Lord VishNu's Temple". Traditionally, most Shiva Temples were poor. VishNu Temples are rich. Hence, robbers do not venture to burglar in Shiva Temples, where there will only be a phallus, some sacred water, and lot of ash. Communist Parties are like Shiva Temples. Supposed to be poor. In Shiva Temples, this trend is gradually changing. In Communist Party Offices also, things are changing rapidly, with computers, smart phones, glossy furniture, entering the scene.

Like Temples, if Communist Parties acquire and accumulate big buildings, rich paraphernalia, they will become attractions from unscrupulous persons who may enter the party to control the assets. This sort of thing, might have happened at Sundaraiah Bhavan, Warangal also, the CPIM's Office.

Tailpiece
Both BJP and CPIM parties claim they have disciplined workers. Do they really have disciplined workers?

One of the important objectives of this blogger at this blog is, contribute to the best of ability, in the direction of intellectualisation of proletariat (working class) in India. Then only, true total Socialism will germinate and grow in an amicable manner so as to facilitate change of the Economy and the Society, WITHOUT BLOODSHED.

893 (Part 1 of 10 series ) How did a dictator like Mr. Mao Tse Tung wake up to start a New Party in his tyrannical Empire?

Late Mao's image courtesy Wikipedia.org.
DeccanChronicle.Com, published from its archive, a 50 year old news which says that Mr. Mao Tse Tung, the Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party has decided to have a new Communist Party for China based on one hundred percent 'Maoism' , and if necessary the new party would be set up in parallel to the existing one. Tokyo, Jan. 25, 1967.
"...The Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party has decided to have a new Communist Party for China based on one hundred percent 'Maoism' , and if necessary the new party would be set up in parallel to the existing one. ..."

ybrao-a-donkey's observations, which are not intended to be imposed on others

Even in 2017, we find that there is no second party in China. That means, either Mr. Mao Tse Tung could not succeed in launching his second party in 1967. Or, he might have launched, but subsequently it might have been merged either by himself or his successors, into the Old Chinese Communist Party.

Normally, Dictators and Life Time Presidents ruling countries do not think of themselves launching a second party, or allow others to start a rival party to the official totalitarian ruling party. There must have been exceptional circumstances which might have forced Late Mao Tse Tung to talk of a new party. Might be, at that particular point of Chinese History, Mao Tse Tung might have lost control over the party founded by himself, and kept it under his feet. There must have been some internal revolt.

I am not a supporter or sympathizer of Mr. Mao Tse Tung. As a school boy, I might have developed my dislike for Mao and China, probably because he himself ordered or acquiesced when China invaded India in 1962, and occupied about 36,000 sq. miles of Indian Territory in Arunachal Pradesh, and Ladakh (Jammu & Kashmir). Besides, under his leadership itself, in 1959 China tromped on Tibet and occupied it. In its history, Mao-Dictated China never respected the rights of other Nations. His successors are continuing the same policies even in 2017.

(Mother) Communist Party of India split in 1962, While the Rightists in the erstwhile Communist Party in India supported USSR (Soviet Russia) and Late Indira Gandhi, the Leftists who formed a separate party CPIM adored China and Mao Tse Tung. In those days, CPIM chose to acquiesce/ ignore the territorial aggressions of China.

Question: Why are you digging up/ raking up this question now? Mr. Mao Tse Tung exists only in history now!

Ans: True. Mr. Mao is dead long back. But the problem of viewing Communism / Marxism / Total Socialism (as distinct from Fabian Gradualist Socialism), as something draconian and anachronistic / obsolete / outdated theory is continuing, by those who get their crumbs from the Capitalist Tycoons. Personally, I (yb-a-donkey) viewed Communism / Marxism / Total Socialism as something which can be executed / implemented with democratic fervour. In my previous blogposts, I have always proposed and tried to popularise the idea that several Communist / Marxist / Total Socialist Parties can co-exist side by side and compete with one another, just as bourgeoisie parties contest and compete with one another in a Capitalist Economies and States.

LACK OF COMPETITION CAN ROT ANY SYSTEM, INCLUDING COMMUNIST / MARXIST /SOCIALIST SYSTEMS

Any system can atrophy, decay and stagnate when there is no healthy competition, and Communism is not an exception. Maoism under the dictatorship of Mao tse Tung too rotted as long as there was one party rule of his own party. IN Jan. 1967, Mr. Mao might have found some rivals, who were earlier his followers, rising their heads, and challenging his authority with sizable support from Members of the Party. A situation might have arisen where Late Mao might have found himself in a precarious stage of being dumped by his own followers. As a strategy he might have thought of a new Party, to challenge his rivals.

IT IS GOOD THAT INDIAN COMMUNIST PARTIES HAVE JOINED MAINSTREAM ELECTION POLITICS.

It is good that Indian Communist Parties, with the exception of Maoists of AOB Border, an some pockets of JhanKhand and West Bengal, have accepted democratic method of participating in elections. The problem with them is, they behave like bourgeoisie parties, owing to electoral compulsions. Deviations from the Basic Principles of Communism made them lose public sympathy, and they have become laughing stock. Occasionally, they lament jointly and severally, that Communists should get united, work jointly, to defeat Congress or BJP or some other party. As at 2017, the combined voting power of CPI and CPIM will not be sufficient to displace BJP or Congress. Then, what will be the using of their contesting together? Every Communist Party in India, by whatever name it is called, has to reinvent itself with better public images, but without parting with the basic tenets of Communism and Marxism.

Communist Parties should compete, and not unite

Competing Communist Parties, to popularise their Total Socialist principles and strategies, can prove to the Indian Citizens and also the outside world, that Communism is not an outdated totalitarian-dictatorial-tyrannical doctrine, but a vibrant-people-responsive practically working philosophy, which strives to bring in justice to the suffering Working Class. Indian Communist Parties have another problem.

Failure of Organised Sector Workers to help Unorganised Sector Workers

Communist Parties have an erroneous impression that the Organised Sector Unionised Workers who successfully coerced their employers to part with some sort of good wages, will work for the upliftment of unorganised sector multitudes and workers. This Organised Sector Employees uplifting the Unorganised Sector Workers, has not taken place because the Organised Sector Workers started spending their earnings on gold, share market investments, speculative real estate transactions cornering large number of house-sites and houses, becoming absentee-landlords of agricultural farms. The Organised Sector of Working Class forgot that it has a responsibility for its brother workers who are toiling in unorganised sector. Organised Working Class has started looking down upon the starving and suffering unorganised workers, as somebody suffering from contagious diseases. Organised Sector started believing that they themselves have merit to deserve higher pay and perks.

Was Long March so glorious and so true?

Personally, I have considered in the past, and even now I consider that Long March was exaggerated and magnified beyond proportions by hagio-graphic writers. This area of hagiographic hyperbolic magnifications of Long March need greater investigation.

842 A reasonably good obituary essay for Late Fidel Castro, by Shri Parsa Venkateswara Rao Jr., Senior Journalist

A reasonably impartial obituary for Late Fidel Castro, by Senior Indian English Journalist, Shri Parsa Venkateswara Rao Jr., can be found at Deccan Chronicle.com. Click to go to http://www.deccanchronicle.com/opinion/op-ed/301116/fidel-was-no-stalin-more-like-ho.html. Indian Capitalist Media seems to have ignored the demise of Fidel Castro, the former Cuban Dictator, as something untouchable. Fortunately, Deccan Chronicle has not done it. Proof, the piece of write-up, titled : "Fidel was no Stalin, more like Ho", by Shri Parsa Venkateswara Rao.

We shall take up a few quotes from the article of Shri Parsa Venkateswara Rao Jr. for an analytical review:

"... The pragmatist in Castro is best seen in the fact that Cubans who were allowed to go to the United States remitted huge amounts in dollars, and the Cuban dictator did not show any aversion for the capitalist dollar. The major achievement of the Castro government has been the welfare measures of free education, healthcare along with employment and housing, which seems to have kept the people at large in good humour. There is no doubt that he dealt harshly with his critics, imprisoned them or exiled them. But this did not seem to lead to popular discontent. ..."

yb-a-donkey: No aversion to Capitalist dollars! Welfare measures! Dealt harshly with his critics! Imprisoned them! Exiled them! This didn't lead to popular discontent!

Everything is crystal clear. No need to add more.

"...The state-run economy was not a huge success and people were allowed to run their own farms and businesses by and by. The iron curtain between Cuba and the United States was rather a thin one. ..."

yb-a-donkey: Mr. Castro's coterie members and cronies might have been allowed to do businesses and own farms. Where is Marxism or Socialism or Communism in all this? Castro might not have sold himself out to Capitalism, as openly as the Chinese Dictators. But degradation, though its intensity may vary, is very obvious.

To continue someday.

619 If we have to call a rat- an elephant or a lion, we have to redefine the words 'elephant' and 'lion'.

CPI is such a great party of glorious history. But its current leaders do not know what is happening in China and Vietnam.

World Language English India's National Language Hindi My Mother Tongue Telugu spoken by 100 million workers
Is China really a socialist country (or a Communist country)? Is Vietnam really a socialist country (Or a Communist country ?
Shri D. Raja is a National Secretary of this All India entity called CPI! He is a member of Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu. I cannot call him a fool or a thoughtless person.
As I am unable to accept countries like China, Vietnam, Cuba, North Korea, as Socialist or Communist countries, my name ybrao-a-donkey must be true. Instead, prove that China, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam are not Communist countries or Socialist countries..
Ans: For example, we shall take China. How many millionnaires and billionnaires are there in China? What part of Chinese Corporates, Shares and Financial Instruments, Mines, Industries are owned by Chinese billionnaires, politicians, corrupt officials, and Chinese rich persons? What part of all these, are owned by MNCs, Corporates from Capitalist countries like U.S.A., Europe, Australia and Canada? What are the wages paid to sweat workers in China? Why Chinese rural poor are not allowed to enter into Chinese cities? Why China oppresses and suppresses workers' strikes? There are dozens of questions which China will have to answer, if it is to really call itself a Communist or a socialist country.
It is not clear whether top bosses of CPI Mr. Bardan and Mr. Suravaram Sudhakara Reddy have endorsed what Mr. Raja has said.

515 Mr. Narendra Modi seems to have imbibed his style of cursing from Swami Vivekananda.

Mr. Narendra Modi, our beloved Prime Minister, has shouted from roof tops and tree tops in China, a foreign land - an alien country, where World Class Statesmen (Statespersons) are expected to exercise some restraint in discussing domestic politics. Discussing domestic politics in foreign countries while on a State visit, will be like washing our dirty linen in a four road junction. As conscious citizens we expect Mr. Modi to speak like a mature Statesperson and not like a petty politician canvassing for a few hundred votes. Even if the previous Presidents and PMs from India might have done that, we do not expect Mr. Modi to do it, because he is supposed to be an angel.
"...There was a time when people used to say we don't know what sins we committed in our past life that we were born in Hindustan. Is this any country, is this any government...we will leave. There was a time when people used to leave, businessmen used to say we can't do business here. These people are ready to come back. The mood has changed. ..."

"...Earlier, you felt ashamed of being born Indian. Now you feel proud to represent the country. Indians abroad had all hoped for a change in government last year. ..."

This lack of concern for dignity and self-respect, Mr. Narendra Modi seems to have imbued from his Ekalavya Sishyatva of Swami Vivekananda.

We shall see how Swami Vivekananda abused India, in his letters (in his Complete Works, these are called Epistles).

In May 1896 Swami Vivekananda wrote to Ms. Alberta Sturges (age 19) that he liked Amerique - the yankee land. He called India a jelly fish.
" ... I have had two classes already — they will go on for four or five months and after that to India I go. But it is to Amerique — there where the heart is. I love the Yankee land. I like to see new things. I do not care a fig to loaf about old ruins and mope a life out about old histories and keep sighing about the ancients. I have too much vigour in my blood for that. In America is the place, the people, the opportunity for everything. I have become horribly radical. I am just going to India to see what I can do in that awful mass of conservative jelly-fish, ... "

Are the styles of Swami Vivekananda and Swami Narendra Modi not similar? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 514 Where from India borrow its phallus worship?

Appropriate evidence is not available to believe that the culture of worshipping human sex organs has its origin in India.

The above photo of main deity's sculpture in Gudimallam Parasurameswara Temple (near Chennai), Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, is very clear about the similarities between Siva Lingas and human penis.

Both Siva (including phallus) worship and Vishnu worship , seem to belong to European origin. While the Siva worship seems to have a Crete (near Greece) origin, Vishnu worship seems to have Latvian/Lithuavian/Old Prussian origin.

Both Vishnu worshippers and Shiva worshippers seem to be European, closely knitted with one another. This is in contrast to the current belief that Vishnu worshippers were Aryans and Shiva worshippers were Dravidians. I believe that both Aryans and Dravidians may be Europeans. The battles between Shiva worshippers and Vishnu worshippers were only internecine squirmishes.

We shall take, for example, the above photo of parasurAmESwara in Gudimallam. Its installer is said to be ParaSu Rama. According to Valmiki Ramayana, he was a staunch believer of Lord Vishnu. In Valmiki Ramayana, Balakanda (Book 1), after the wedding of Shri Rama and Sita, Parasurama suddenly emerges and frightens everybody.

According to Shiva Purana, Rudra Samhita, at Daksha's sacrifice, after Shiva's first wife died in a self-generated fire, Lord Shiva got much agitated. When Shiva plucked a hair of his and dropped on ground, Gods Virabhadra and Bhadra Kali were born. Veerabhadra challenged God MahavishNu for a fight and defeated him. Then VishNu fled to his abode, to save himself.

munE SambhO prabhAvAt
yAyESasya mahA prabhO
na cacal harEs cakram
karastham sthambhitam dhruvam.

Lord VishNu got his disc freed. Then he took his "Sarngna bow" and sent three arrows from it, towards Lord Virabhadra.

tatah sthambhana nirmuktaha
SArngna dhanvA ramESvaraha
SARngna jagrkAha sa kruddhaha
svadhanuhu saSaram munEhe
tribhischa gharshitam
bANastEn SArNgnam dhanur harE

VIrabhadra broke all the three arrows sent by VishNu.

vIrabhadrENa tattAt
tridhAt bhUkshaNAt munE

Then Creator God Brahma, and his wife- Goddess of Learning- Saraswati, informed him about the Great powers of Shiva's forces, and suggested him to disappear. VishNu disappeared from the battle scene and went back to his abode, VaikunTham.

atha VishNum mahAvANyA

antardhAtum manor dadhE.
gnAtvA tatsarvam idam
satikritam dusprasaham parEshAm
gatAha svalOkAh svagaNAnvitAs
smritvAh Siva sarva patim svatamtram.

Thus, Shiva Purana narration was very clear about Vishnu's defeat.

Valmiki Ramayana Chapter 66, verse 10 and 11 say that Gods were agitated when Shiva threatened them to behead them with his Shiva bow, because they did not give him his share of oblations. In verse 11, there is a presumption of their surrendering to him, and Shiva's getting pleased (prasAdiyati dEvESa) with their supplication. But the verses are silent about failure of VishNu's disc and bow. Nor the verses mention whether Vishnu was among the defeated Gods.

On the other hand, subsequently, Creator God, and Sages create a situation of conflict between Lord Shiva and Lord VishNu. In the test, when VishNu made a 'hum' sound, Shiva and his bow got petrified (unabled to move, became stonelike, static).

Valmiki Ramayana, Book 1, Sarga 75 (Chapter 75) deals with the scene. 17th verse.

In English script (Roman script)
tadA jrimbhitam Saivam dhanur bhIma parAkramam
humkArENa mahAdEvah stambhitO atha trilOcanaha.

(After destruction of daksha's sacrifice by Lord Shiva, everybody thought that Shiva was the Supreme Lord. But sages wanted to test it. Creator God Brahma, encouraged a rift between the two, and brought them at a place for a conflict.) When VishNu made a "hum" sound, it made Shiva's bow to stupify-petrify (become like a stone).

509 Rulers are like kings of frogs playing with snakes.

I thought, that in this blog post I could continue about the origin of Tirumala Venkateswara, as reflected in the writing of Sripati Pandita and quoted by Late Shri Suravaram Pratapa Reddy. I had to push it off to future, and take up the great speech of our Great Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi.

Shri Narendra Modi, during his visit of China, is reported to have said as under, while addressing the Indians residing in China, on 16.5.2015.
"I am criticised for working hard. If working hard is a crime, then I am prepared to commit that crime for 125 crore Indians. Every moment of my time is for the 125 crore people of India," said Prime Minister Modi while addressing the Indian community reception in Shanghai.

"I have tried to complete work that has been pending for 30 years. People trust me more because this is the first year of a full majority. The Government has done a lot of work."

Approximate Hindi from Net:

People would have greatly appreciated if our beloved Prime Minister has been working for the chaiwalahs (tea sellers and tiffin cart workers as he himself claimed to be one of such persons) or for dishwaters in hotels (Ms. Smriti Irani's claim of her past working).

Prime Minister Modi met the top business tycoons of China and pitched the 'Make in India' initiative.

I have studied this speech. It is a routine type of speech written by his speech-makers, may be in PMO, or may be in MEA, or may be in Ministry of Commerce. Whatever it is, there is nothing special in it. Any PMoI might have used the same speech. Had it been a Hindi speech addressed to some NRIs/PIOs, he might, while speaking, have added some body language, gestures, modulations, to make it like a Late Shivaji Ganesan's speech in the film Karna or Veer Pandya Katta bomman, or the speech of Late N.T. Rama Rao in the film Dana Veera Sura Karna.

We are fortunate in one thing. He has not made a promise to bring out more labor reforms. So far so good. Yet, my mind gets stung up whenever I see/hear our rulers inviting foreign Corporates to "make in India" or "invest in India". It is because our rulers do not read history or learn from history, or at least learn from folk tales and legends.

STORY OF KING OF FROGS

There used to be a king of frogs. Once an intelligent serpant appraoched the king of frogs. The snake offered the royal frog, to carry him, his queens and friends, on his (snake's) back. The F'king rejoiced. Once on the back of the snake, F'king forgot the fear of snakes. After a few days, the snake pretended to be emaciated and week. F'king enquired from the snake, why he was so weak. The snake said it was hungry, and was unable to get any food. The F'king, addicted to being carried by the snake in royal jubilation, authorised the snake to eat two frogs every day. The snake used the F'king's authority to devor more frogs (who will count???) and finished all the frogs in the kingdom. When no menial hoi polloi frogs were available, the snake ate away the King, Queens, royal kith and kin.

The history is going to repeat for India. Of course, I do not know whether I am going to live longer than another ten years to see it, but for Indians, it is going to the tryst with the destiny.

We shall quote from the Andhrula sAhitya by Late Suravaram Pratapa Reddy.

Chapter relating to the period 1757 to 1857. Page 357.

Approximate English gist:
A person named Strassey said before the same Enquiry Committee: "..We have destroyed the industries of India. Now, India depends only on land. Even now (1813) Indian Silk, cotton clothes sell 60 times (may be 60%) cheaper than our goods. Hence, our Govt. is levying a duty of 60 or 70%, or by prohibiting imports from India, overcoming them.

Manro said: "... In Madras Province, Company has called the weavers and forcibly obtained agreements from them that they would very cheaply weave cloth(es) and deliver to them. When they delayed in weaving, Company's servants went watching them, recovered a penalty of one anna per day, and inflict them body injuries with canes. ..."

"English even after occupying Bengal in the Battle of Plassey in 1760, and the Madras Province in the Vandivash Battle, Indians went on ships to England, to sell goods. Then, when the English saw the ships, they got frightened as if the Thames River got engulfed in fires! Indians, __ our slaves ___will they trade in our country, competing with us? This anger was followed by the disappearance of our ships, our industries, and our wealth in a few years. Only lands were left for the people. But in the output from them (i.e. lands), more than half, was being snatched away by the Company , in the name of taxes. ..."

Link for those who want study the story of Mahakavi Kalidasu.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahakavi_Kalidasu .

English and Hindi versions will be added shortly.

English : Recollecting Great Telugu Poet Shri Shri's pun: 'aTlE kAninDu', I shall roast some pan cakes.  (Pun here is 1) aTlu = pan cakes. 2) aTlu = as you say, likewise.)  Telugu singular word for 'pan cake' is aTTu.  Telugu plural for pan cake is 'aTlu'.  I shall do here 'likewise, as you say' means, instead of criticising Prez, PM, Guv, CM, I shall take up something personal which deals with keeping one's own ass clean.

First, one clarification
If pilot of an aircraft, or Captain of a ship, or driver of a big bus, commits an error, there will be a great calamity and disaster.  Similarly if a Prez, PM, Guv, CM commits a grave error, entire Nation or an entire State collapses,  or suffers for some decades or centuries.  On the other hand a kaun-kiska-goTTam-gADu like me (sorry for using obscene words, but they are very appropriate, hence I am tempted to use.), commits a fault, at the most he (I) and his (my) family suffer(s).  Nothing else happens.  Hence an analyses of what the rulers do is important and not what a "SatakOTi XXX la lO oka bODi XXX" (one insignificant fellow among a billion guys, referring to one ordinary Indian among 130 crore Indian population) does is really worthwhile to write about.

Now, writing something about myself.

TOP TEN BOOKS WHICH INFLUENCED MY CHILDHOOD (UPTO 8TH STANDARD OF EDUCATION).

This pertains to the period 1954-1962 March.

My condition used to be like Calvin inthe Calvin Hobbes comics, without the cat Hobbes.  From 1954 to 1959, I was dumped by my parents at my paternal  grandfather's place in a small village.   To describe my grandfather now, I have to coin a new phrase, which is to be the opposite of nouveau riche (a person who became rich recently), i.e nouveau poor or nouveaux pauvres.   A person who has become poor a short time earlier.  He used to have his own grievances, which he used to mumble to me, expecting some consolation from me.  My grand mother used to go to outstation relatives houses often, resulting in my becoming a burden to my grandfather.

In 1959 I was shifted from my grandfather's village to Guntur, then to Bapatla.

This list of top ten books read by me, pertains to that period.

1. KottAndhra vAcakam.  (I Standard School Telugu Primer published around 1957 by Venkatrama & Co., Eluru.

In four years of primary education, I read only I standard.  2nd, 3rd, 4th standards were skipped.  No books.

This used to be a black & white 1/8 demy-size book, centre-stapled, 64 page book, opening with the Telugu alphabet 'a' 'అఆ'  with picture of plough for araka అరక  =  plough, and Avu ఆవు =  cow.  Last pages contained some small moral stories.  One such story was about a boy who nursed a snake by feeding it with milk daily, in spite of dissuasion by elders.  One day, the snake bit him.  He died.  The moral intended to be conveyed was that we should not host persons with unpredictable venomous behaviors.  (This moral story came to me mind, when Shri L.K. Advani, Shri Vajpayee, and Murali Manohar Joshi were sidelined. I have on Twitter saw a re-tweet said to have been made by Mr. Advani).

2. Sumati Satakam.

For four years in succession, these two were my only text books, covering I to IV standards in one lumpsum.

Apart from these, I received training in writing Telugu promisory notes (used for borrowing money all over Telugu land), and multiplication tables upto 20 x 20 =400 (twenty twenties are four hundred) called 'pedda ekkams'.

Learning in those days was mostly on Markapur-slates with wooden frames, using stone pencils.  Getting by-heart (committing to memory) was a must.  Here, we have to distinguish between 'baTTI' and 'dhAraNa'.  baTTIyam is rote learning without understanding meaning.  dhAraNa is storing in memory after understanding meaning.

Experiences some of these two books, multiplication tables, promisory notes, may be of some, at least garbage value, I shall narrate later on.

3. Shri Shankara Vijayam.

A biography of Adi Sankaracharya published by Sringeri Sankara Matham.  Sankara's experiences of going to Mandana Misra's House through the closed doors and walls, arguing with Mandana Misra, his wife Chandrasekhara Kriya Sakti, going to Kasi and entering into Kasi King's body to experience kAma SAStra, ultimately defeating Mandana Misra, his becoming Sankaracharya's disciple with the name SurESwara, were all etched in my mind.

4. A small biographical book on Mahakavi bhAravi, which was our non-detailed text in 7th Standard.

About this I shall write later.

5. A small biographical book on Vir DurgA Das (A Rajput warrior of Moghul Aurangzeb period, who acted as guardian of Rajput king Jasvant Singh's son, and also who was said to have given shelter to Prince Akbar, s/o Aurangzeb).  This was our Non-detailed text in VIII standard.

6. Bhoomi, Telugu rendering of a novel by Rahul Sankritayan.  This book was given to me at Bapatla Municipal High School in 7th Standard, for writing an essay on coconut tree (kobbari ceTTu).  The school authorities, by giving this type of profound books might have thought, that students can be moulded into better citizens.  Unfortunately, I could not understand the intricacies of this book.  I was immature.  akka ASE kAni, bAva batakaDu kadA.  (English:  Sister wants her husband to live, but brother-in-law will not love.  Telugu proverb to indicate a hopeless situation.).  Like legendary Duryodhana of Mahabharata, I am destined to a different shore.   About this I shall write later.

7. Vasavadatta, Telugu translation of a drama by Emperor Harsha.  This book was given as a prize by Bapatla Municipal High School in a school level contest of reproducing mathematical and scientific formulae, in 7th Standard.  I could not make any head and tail of this book, though I tried my best.  School authorities' good intentions became futile.
About this, and the other two books of Harsha i.e. Nagandandam and Ratnavali, I shall write when time permits.

8. Mahabharatam, a weekly serial in Sunday issue in SaraswatAnubandham of Andhra Prabha, or Andhra Patrika daily.  It was, I think by Kavya KanTha GaNapati Muni.  I read it regularly, but I could not make any head and tail of it.  May be my own ignorance.

9. Tenali RamakrishNudi kathalu.  (Stories of Tenali Rama.  Tenali Ramakrishna was a 16th Century Telugu poet, well known more known for his cATuvulu (ex tempore rendering of poetry) and less known for his profound poetry UdbhaTArAdhya caritra).

10. A biography of Bammera pOtana, linking him with poet Srinatha as his brother-in-law.

Other than these, there was not much extra-curricular reading.

One Shri Khader Vali was there, a school Base Ball Champion, a role model for the school students.

Good time was spent on climbing sapOTA trees behind the Bhavanarayana Swami Temple, Bapatla.  Playing "vanguDu dUkuLLu" in the temple premises, and some times cricket.

Almost every harikatha sung in the temple premises was heard.  There were two excellent Nadaswara Vidwans in the temple service (They might have expired now).  One violin vidvAn,  was a youth in those days.  I used to listen to their Nadasvaram playing and violin playing.  After growing up, many times I thought of going to Bapatla, catch hold of that violin maestro by his feet, and learn violin from him.  It did not materialise, because of life's priorities.

After I retired from Bank, I had some spare money, from PF etc.  I bought a second hand violin, and approached a local teacher.  I do not know why, but after learning flute in classical style, learning other instruments have stopped appealing to me.  It may be because flute remains closest to our lips.  Of course, violins also touch our chest, shoulders.  Liking something or not liking something, these are all individualistic idiosyncracies.

One song which always reverberated in my ears again and again "Om HarA SankarA!  vandanm digambarA, vandita purandhara etc."  It was also sung by a burra katha Great.

Bapatla Railway Station was visited.  We used to, sometimes, beg for 'grease' from the engine drivers of coal rail engines of those days.  Purpose: Screws of our fountain pens used to leak frequently.  Applying grease was thought to be a solution for plugging the leakages.

My first lesson about observing human sexual behaviors was taught to me, by a senior student,  on the stairs leading to the shed containing the God's car (ratham).  The stairs in those days were located from within the temple premises, on the northern side of the dhwaja sthambham (flag post).

The most important historical development during that period was Chinese Invasion 36,000 sq.km. of Ladakh and NEFA (North East Frontier Agency or by Arunachal Pradesh) in 1962.  Our beloved CM Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu is now on a visit to China to beg them for investments.  Our next blog post will be about it.
