Though this blog has been started as 'problems of telugus', we have expanded into National problems of India, and the problems of the World, particularly Poverty, Inequalities of Income and Wealth. I support Atheism and Marxism which I call TOTAL TRUE SOCIALISM, but I do not wish to impose on others. If you do not like what I write, pl. write your comment here. If you like anything, pl. tell others.

The matter can become clear only if some practical examples are given:--
Shri Bammera Potana, Telugu poet of 15th Century CE, is a poet of Great accomplishments. He translated from Sanskrit to Telugu, vyAsa's Mahabhagavata. Potana Bhagavatam is a household name in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, North Tamil Nadu, and North Karnataka.
I am taking some Kandam verses from Potana's Bhagavatam, to explain how Kanda verses correspond to the Mathematics of Aadi tALam or teen tAL. I shall also try to take some verses from other poets such as Nannaya, Tikkana, Yerra praggada, Tenali Ramakrishna, Srinatha, etc., who are all adept in constructing Kandam verses.
100 verses literature -called SATAKA SAHITYAM
Telugu is very rich in Sataka sAhityam i.e.100 verse literature, in which every verse will end with the same refrain called "makuTam" (crown). Example: Sumati Satakam , Vemana Satakam , Krishna Satakam. I shall select some examples from them also.
Some loose talk by me--ybrao a donkey
I believe in the maxim "artham lEni caduvu vyartham" = An education / reading / study will be futile, if its meaning is not understood. I also believe in the Principle that Telugu language should be written in Roman Script, on International Fora, and meanings of contents should be explained in World Languages (unfortunately I know only English, and our National Language HINDI).
from Potana Bhagavatam. Canto 8. Episode: gajEndra mOksham. In this Episode, the king of Elephants was caught by a crocodile, when the Elephant was playing in a Lake, with his Queens. After his every effort to get himself freed from the Allegator failed, the Elephant king "GajEndra" prayed to Lord VishNu for deliverance. Lord VishNu severed the head of Crocodile with his weapon "disc" and freed GajEndra. This kanda verse is only one verse, inter alia, numerous other Prayer verses seekign relief.
English Explanation: lOkambulu= Worlds. = All these worlds. lOkamu, lOkambu these words seem to have an Indo European Prototype origin language. Probably from locare Latin, locate, location etc.
lOkESulu = Rulers of Worlds. E.g.: British Queen, American President, Russian President, Chinese President, French President, etc. etc.
lOkasthulu = those who resident in these worlds. The suffix "stha" also has Indo European Prototype origin. stha = situated, sit, etc. Lokasthulu = Americans, British, Indians, French, Germans, Africans, Australians, Chinese, Indians, etc. etc. All those who residet on this Earth, including Flora, Fauna.
tegina tudi = These two are real Telugu words. after they get destroyed. This is a sort of apocalypse.
alOkambagu = The prefix "a' = not. alOkamu, alOkambu = Worldless i.e. where there are no Worlds.
penjIkaTi= pen, cIkaTi both are Telugu native words. pen = big. cIkaTi= darkness.
avvala = beyond = beyond the darkness
evvaDu = who
EkAkriti = Eka Sanskrit prefix , probably Indo European, = as single, as only one
Akriti=form, shape. This word is also apparently Indo-European prototype.
evvaDu EkAkriti velugu = who glows in a single form
atani = inflected he = him
nE = I
sEvintun = I serve, worship, pray. (There is another version which says "bhajiyintun" = I pray, I acclaim.).
My observation as an atheist: If at all God exists, he-she-it can either have one name or thousand names. But this verse does not name anybody i.e. any particular God. That means it is SECULAR, in its approach. A person in grave-danger (in this story an Elephant caught by an allegator, shall not bother whether he is Christian God, Hindu God, Islamic God, Chinese God. At this point, I muse about the feelings / sufferings of "karAbe kunTA kinTE" in Alex Haley's autobiographical Research "ROOTS". In that book, the context: Karabe Kunta KintE, the African Ancestor of Haley was being taken in a box aboard a ship of Slave Traders from Gambia to USA, to sell him as a Slave.
What is the goal of your writing about Telugu verse meter "Kandam" with Aadi tAL of South Indian Music, and "teen tAL" of NOrth Indian Music?
Ans: Most World languages and Indian Languages do not appear to have much of a tradition of "AASU POETRY" , meaning: Verses created ex tempore matching with Context or , demands of audience/spectators, or as an intellectual exercise. My Readers can correct me, if any other World Language / Indian Language has such tradition of "AASU POETRY". Probably, Kannada may have.
Carnatic Music (South Indian Classical Music) lays much stress on "Literature" part of the Musical Composition. Exception: rAgam - tAnam - pallavi. Even rAgam tAnam pallavi has at least one literary line. North Indian Classical Music , with the exception of Mira Bai's work, and some other bhajans, basically does not give much importance to Literature (Lyrical words) part. This might have probably occured because the Patrons of North Indian Classical Music i.e. Delhi Sultans, Mogul Emperors, smaller rulers did not relish Literature. Therefore, the stress was more on MELODY. Not even Rhythm.
Telugu is a language spoken by 100 million people in the World.
Telugu language has a nick-name 'Italian of the East', probably because its words mostly end in a vowel sound, whereas words of most languages often end with a consonant. This characteristic of words ending with a vowel sound, seem to give the Telugu language some additional sweetness to listen to. Hence, Telugu language has become a language loved for its melody. It has hundreds of thousands of verses and songs. Telugu is amenable both to AalAp (humming without any literature, or percussion instruments), and for singing of rhythmic songs , with accompaniment of percussion instruments.
Telugu Prosody meters called "chandas" in Indian languages, are very melodious both for recitation and singing. These metric verses are compulsorily used in the Ancient Telugu books such as Mahabharatam, Mahabhagavatam, Ramayanam, These meters have a wide range on the continuum of difficulty i.e. most difficult to compile at one end , and relatively easier meters to compose, at the other end. In variety, these meters outshine English Poetic meters in several respects.
Some important Telugu poetic meters
1. Utpala mAla (literal meaning , a garland of lotuses)
2. Champaka mAla (literal meaning , a garland of lavendars )
3. mattEbham (literal meaning , an elephant which is in its heats or which is very excited)
4. SArdUlam (literal meaning , a tiger)
5. matta kOkila (literal meaning, an excited cuckoo)
so on so forth.
Though the above meters are believed to have a Sanskrit origin, I am unable to find any popular usage for the meters in Sanskrit books such as Mahabharata, Mahabhagavata, Ramayana etc etc.
Indigenous Telugu meters
1. Kandamu
2. Sisamu
3. TETa gIti
4. AaTa veladi
5. dvipada
so on so forth.
Amenability of Kandamu prosody, in conforming to the Aadi tALam (Carnatic Music) / teen tAL (Hindusthani music
The Adi TALam /teen tAL of Indian Classic Music run with a 4 / 8 / 16 / 32 / 64 time units depending upon the expected tempo. Kanda padyams (Kandam verses) too run in these 4/8/16/32/64 beat. I shall give some examples of the verses and show how they conform to the Aadi tALam / tEEn tAL.
Note: Though Telugu classical songs (called kritis, kIrtanAs, etc. etc.) are made to adhere to fixed length meters , cycles and beats, it is rare that they conform to Telugu Prosody meters such as Utpalamala or kandamu. Literary Poetic prosody meters and Classical Music tALa cycles are unconnected. They are different.
I believe that I am the first fortunate person to identify the link between kandam and Aadi tALam; strangely it struck me in a dream when I was having an afternoon summer siesta. But, I need not be the first person; others too might have had this experience, but they might not have had time to write about it, with some good publicity such as internet.
Kandam verse has four lines called 'pAdams' (literary meaning 'feet'. Etymology akin to "ped"=feet, Indo European Prototype.).
First line and third line have a similar structure of 3 x 4 time units.
Second and Fourth lines have a similar structure of 5 x 4 time units.
Most kanda padyams have symmetric construction in the sense that first two lines have one continuity. 3rd and 4th lines have one continuity.
Thus first two lines, when combined, will have 8 time units. 3rd and 4th lines have combined 8 time units.
First two lines, we can treat as one cycle of Aadi tALam / teen tAL.
Third and Fourh lines, we can treat as one cycle of Aadi talam / teen tAL.
Alternatively, we can take the entire kanda padyam as one Aadi tALa / teen tAL cycle of 16 time units.
How to make Kanda padyam 1-2 and 3-4 lines?
POETIC PROSODY OF KANDAM
Kandam's first two lines, can be divided into total eight "gaNam"s. GaNam = a group of persons, a group of things etc. GaNam with the meaning "group" , is probably a word of Indo European Prototype origin of Scandinavia and Baltics.
Kandam two lines, require use of eight gaNams of equal length, of length of four vowels each.:
Telugu Poetic Prosody has gaNams of different lengths.
Examples:
"ha", "va" "na" gaNams are not used in kandam.
"bha", "ja", "sa" gaNams have 4 vowel length, with one Long vowel of value 2, and two short vowels of value 1 each, i.e:
L+s+s =4. vowel length. This is bha gaNam.
s+L+s = 4. vowel length. This is ja gaNam.
s+s+L = 4. This is "sa" gaNam.
Similarly L + L= 4. = 2+2= This is called "gagam".
In the same way, s+s+s+s - 4 short vowels = 4 length. This is called "nalam".
Likewise, "ya", "ra", "ta" gaNams have five vowel lengths each. Hence they are not used in kandams.
"Ma" ganam has six vowel length. Not used in Kandam.
"nagam" has five vowel length. Not used.
In the following lines L=2 units of time or vowel length, s=1 unit of time or vowel length
Essence: Only 4 vowel lengths gaNams are permitted, i.e. "bha" i.e. Lss, "ja" i.e. sLs, "sa" i.e. ssL, "nalam" i.e. ssss, "gagam" i.e. LL are permitted. 8 gaNams x 4 vowel lengths = 32 time units, a multiple of 8/16/32/64 which will fit into the meter of Aadi tALam or teeN tAL, or 4/8/16/32/64 beat of Western Music. I am nto conversant or profificnet with Western music. Hence, I shall cover only South INdian (Carnatic), and North Indian (Hindusthani) music.

Inspiration for writing this particular Blog post is Ms. D.K. Pattammal's book 'rAga pravAha'. It is available on Internet free, at her website. Link: Click here to go to: http://www.dpattammal.com/downloads/raga_pravagam-english-full.pdf. Exactly four years back i.e. on 11th Oct. 2014, I wrote my blog post No. 368 here suggesting addition of 36 more mELakartas (mother tunes) to provide representation for tunes which use both the madhyamas i.e. western notes f and f#. In her above book rAga pravAha, Ms. PattammAl has collected and enumerated nearly 3500 Carnatic RAGAs. She has also examined some issues relating to naming of rAgAs. It is a great work. Yet, I felt that in these days of everybody having no time to undertake rigorous practice, working on 3500 tunes, remembering their names etc. a Herculian task. At least, a donkey-like person such as I, may not have the "Endurance" required for the task. While musing on these ideas, I revisited my above blog post NO. 368 Click here if you wish to have a look at post 368.. I felt that the 36 names suggested by me for the additional mELakartas 73 to 108 proposed by me, I may try to revise to make them more rememberable.
Accordingly, I have prepared another table of the 36 suddha madhyam mELakartas, their 36 f# counterparts, and the ubhayamadhyam f & f# mishr mELa kartas. I reproduce it below for the benefit of my Readers, who may be more persevering than me.
అయితే సంప్రదించాల్సిన ఈమెయిల్ ybhask [at] gmail [dot] com. Are you keen on spreading the message of Atheism and Marxism in your village / locality. If so, you are welcome to contact the preceding email.
In the following table, third column, in the names of the ubhaya madhyam tunes, meanings:--
umA= ubhaya madhyam, i.e. both suddh madhyam and prati/tivra madhyam are used; i.e. f & f# are used. Middle names like indu, netra, agni, veda , bANa, krita (ritu) suggest their 6 tune group names called "cakrams' or 'cycles'. The cakras contain the 6 group rAgas which basically have the same pUrvAnga, i.e. the first four notes sa, ri, ga, ma or c, c#-d-d#, c#-d-d#, e, f are common. Hence, having the chakra name as part of a rAga name gives an indication of the first four notes of the rAga.
Suddha madhyam rag (Western Note: f)
prati (tIvra )madhyam rag (Western Note: f#)
ubhaya madhyam tune name added by ybrao-a-donkey with additional new mother tune No.
Trigger for writing this particular blog post No. 1036: A very enthusiastic-learned friend has sent a pdf file named 'shruti.pdf'. This Essay of 12 pages deals with a system of 22 shritis for Indian Music, envisaged by one Shri Subhash Kak. The Essay is dated 19th Sept. 2001. The Essay is very technical in nature. I am an ordinary person, who has some musical knowledge, both theory and practice (Hindusthani Sitar, and Carnatic Flute), but not enough to comprehend the finenesses, precisions and subtleties of the technicalities discussed in the Essay. Besides, sadly enough, I am unable to spare adequate time for an in depth analysis and study of the subject matter. I have uploaded this shruti.pdf file, at my free sub-domain web-page courtesy x10hosting.com. Aficionados and Connoisseurs of the technicalities of these 22 shrutis of Indian Music, can download the Essay of Shri Kak, clicking the following link: Click here to go to http://ayyo.x10.mx/download.php?file=shruti.pdf. After downloading and studying the Shruti.pdf file, if my valued Readers have any Comments/Views/Observations to make, they are welcome to write their comments in the comments window below. Criticism is also welcome.
Question: With your limited knowledge of Indian Music, what can you say about the Shritis?
Ans: In my limited knowledge, we can have two contexts for Shriti (also spelt as shruti).
1. Reference to AdhAr ShaDjam, i.e. the Note which is regarded as 'sa in Indian System' and say 'C' in the Western System. The position and frequency of the other Notes will be determined on the basis of 'sa' or 'C'. All the Musicians both the Vocalists, and Accompanying Instrumentalists follow the same Note as 'sa', so that there will be harmony in their team work.
2. In Carnatic Music, there are terms known as 'chatu-shriti' rishabham (Western note d), and 'chatu-shriti dhaivatam'. The word 'chatu or chatur' means four. That means A chatushriti rishabham will have 4 shritis. I take this to mean that 'chatushriti rishabham (d)' will be at a distance of four shritis from 'sa' (c). Form this logic, we get that 'shuddha rishabham (c#)' of Carnatic Music (kOmal rishabh of Hindusthani Music (c#)' will be at a 2 shritis distance from Adhar ShaDjam. From this, for a long time, my mind has been lingering around the idea that there should be two more notes between 'c' and 'd' i.e. shaDjam and chatushriti rishabham. They have to be Ekashriti Rishabham (one shriti distance from 'sa') has to come between Shadjam and Suddha rishabham, and trishriti rishabham (three shriti distance from 'sa' 'c'), i.e. between 'Suddha rishabham' and 'chatushriti rishabham'.
These 1 shriti rishabham, and 3 shriti rishabham may be very subtle, for ordinary ears to distinguish from other rishabhams.
That revised sequence will be : sa, 1ri, 2ri (shuddh rishabh in Carnatic Music, and kOmal rishabh in Hindusthani Music) , 3ri 4ri, then gandhArs (d#).
About 'shat shriti dhaivatam' in Carnatic Music which = sAdhAraNa gandhAram in C-Music, and kOmal gandhAr in H-Music:--
After 4 shriti ri (chatushriti rishabham), and before 6 shriti ri (sAdhAraNa gandhAram or kOmal Gandhar), there should be a 5 shriti rishabham i.e. panchashriti rishabham. As 6s rishabham and s-gandhAram/komal gandhAr are same, the concept of shaT-shriti rishabham may appear to be somewhat superfluous.
Now, further revised sequence will be:
sa, 1ri, 2ri, 3ri, 4ri, 5ri, NO SHATSRITI RISHABHAM, then d# (sAdhAraNa gandhAram or kOmal gandhAr).
Derivation from this: For rishabham, there can be 5 shritis, and probably we should have 5 five notes. But, because already millions of Musical Works have been written with '12 notes', and thousands of musical instruments have been designed since several Centuries, and millions of pieces of musical instruments have been made, we may say that there can be more shritis, probably even 22 as discussed in the above pdf file. But 12 notes appear to be the maximum for all the three systems i.e. Western Music, Hindusthani Music, and Carnatic Music.
A similar analysis, we may have to make '1 shriti dhaivatam' and '3 shriti dhaivatam', distance to be calculated from 'pa panchamam'.
That sequence will be: pa, 1dha, 2dha (shuddh Dhaivat in Carnatic Music, and kOmal Dhaivat in Hindusthani Music, 3dha, 4dha (chatur-dhaivat in Carnatic Music and Shuddh Dhaivat in Hindusthani Music), then proceed to Nishad ni (a#).
Question: Will your 'sthira Sri sangItam' be devoid of Shriti?
Ans: First of all, I do not claim any ownership-pioneership for the Sthira Shriti SangItam. There were Great Musicians (Telugu: endarO mahAnubhAvulu) before me. It has just occurred to my mind about two years back, when I was on my 'riyAz' (practice, Sanskrit, Hindi, Telugu: 'sAdhana'). Since then, I have been experimenting with it.
Shriti (Harmony with primary tone 'sa' (C)) is accomplished in Indian Music, both Hindusthani and Carnatic, by using a drone-- deep humming sound generator, such as a small harmonium box, or a tamboora, or a shehnai-mini-nadasvaram like instrument, or of late, an Electronic Shriti Box. Depending on the voice of the Singer, the drone is set to c(1), c#(1.5), d(2), d#(2.5), e(3), f(4), f#(4.5), g(5), g#(5.5), a(6), a#(7), b(7.5). This drone-shriti sound is taken as 'adhAr shaDj'. All other Notes in the Octave will be decided on the basis of the AdhAr ShaDjam.
In the Sthira Shriti SangItam, I envisage, the Artists may, always, have to take the AdhAr shaDjam as 'sa or c' of No. 1 shriti. A Drone of one shriti may be used consistently, and the Artist may have to adhere to it consistently. Even if a drone-instrument is not available, the Artist may have to memorise in hise mind the 'sa' of 1 shriti, and as far as possible try to stick on to it.
Question: Do you want to dispense with other Shritis?
Ans: Not exactly. My idea is based on what is known as 'graha bhedam'. When a rAgA is played/sung in a Shriti other than 1 (C), it may have to be given a New RAgA name. This is not my creation. This practice already exists, upto a limited extent. For example, in Carnatic Music, we have what are known as mUrchanA rAgas.
First set of existing 5 note MUrchana RAgAs: 1. Mohana (Bhopali or BhUp) 2. Hindolam (Malkhauns) 3. Suddh Dhanyasi 4. Suddh sAvEri (Durga) 5. MadhyamAvati (MEgh).
About my methods of sthira shriti music, they require about ten blog posts. I shall try to present them, whenever I find time. My priorities are Marxism and Atheism.
To come back and continue adding / deleting / modifying.
I am writing this particular blog post, about 75% seriously, and 25% unseriously. Seriously because:--I have already burnt several years of midnight oil, (valuable?) human time on this concept of 'sthira sriti music' about which I have become somewhat idiosyncratic and obsessive, like Late Morarji Desai, Former Prime Minister of India, who was a lover of auto-urine therapy (drinking one's own urine for improvement of health). My riyaz-sAdhana (practice hours) for the last three years were spent with dabbling / meddling with a few musical instruments, while trying to experimenting with this sthira sriti music. As far as outcome and progress is concerned, I believe that I made some consolidation, clarity and progress in my efforts. But, yet, not enough to make public demonstrations on stage, or placing videos on internet. This is mainly because my voice is somewhat shrill and inflexible in reproducing intended tones. I have tried to get some assistance from one or two local classical vocal singers of Carnatic Music, but I cannot expect much co-operation from anybody because this is one idiotic activity of mine which does not yield MONEY (moolah/lucre), about which this Capialist World is enamoured with 24/7/365.
This is in continuation of my post No. 368, at this blog. Link: Click to go to 368 . I felt that there is a need to revise the names for the 36 additional new mELa kartas (new Mother tunes) proposed, for the CarnATic Music, probably for HindusthAni Music also. These names are easier to remember, when compared to the 36 names proposed in Post No. 368. There is no change in the structure of the Notes. There are only changes in Names of the Tunes (rAgams).
When compared to North Indian Music (Hindusthani Music) which has only 10 Mother Tunes (called ThAThs- bhairav, bhairavi, pUrvi, pUria, bilAval, khamAj, kAfI, AsAvri, tODi, kalyAN, total 10 ThAThs), South Indian Music (popularly known as CarnAtic Music) has 72 mother tunes, which are called "mELa kartAs". In other words, in addition to the 10 ThAThs of Hindusthani, Carnatic Music has additional 62 ThAThs.
In HindusthAni Music, though there are 12 notes (called Svara sthAnas) in an Octave, in a Complete Tune (sampUrNa rAga) only seven notes (sapta svarAs) are used.
IN CarnATic Music, though there are 16 notes in an Octave, still only seven notes (sapta svarAs) are used.
Out of the 72 Mother tunes (mELakartas), in 40 mELakartas both the variants of a single note are used while playing with instruments. However, in vocal Music, the note's first letter is uttered with a different initial.
Example: Use of soft (kOmal) ri, and strong (catusriti) ri, Use of soft da (kOmal dha) and strong da (catusriti da), in the Tune No. 1, KanakAngi.
The ascendence of kanakAngi: c, c# (soft ri), d (strong ri. This is pronounced in vocal music as "ga", calling it shatsriti rishabham), f, g, g# (soft da), a (strong da, pronounced as "ni", calling it as suddh nishAd of Carnatic Music), c'.
In addition, what we can observe from the above ascendence (ArOhi or ArOhaNa)? Omission of the standard two gandhArs i.e. d# and e.
After c, c#, d, the tune progresses (or hops to / jumps) direct to f.
Similarly, we can find the omission of the standard two nishAds (soft ni or kaisiki ni a#, & strong ni or kAkali ni 'b').
After all the above adjustments, we get the ascendence as under:
c,c#,d,f. (First Part- uttarAng). g,g#,a,c' (Second Part -uttarAng).
Thus we get, some special treatment to Rishabh, gandhAr, dhaivat, nishAd.
But, the same luxury is not extended to madhyamams (f, f#).
Though there is no formal acknowledgement to the double madhyama (f, f#) tunes as ThAThs, Hindusthani music allows double "f" tunes such as bihAg, hamIr kalyAN, with or without adding a prefix "mishr". In CarnATic Music, Hindusthani double madhyam tunes are imported and used.
Question: So, what do you want to propose?
Ans: Carnatic Music needs addition of another 108 mELakartas to make it more scientific, and better designed. To start with we shall see how we can add an additional 36 mEla kartas (Mother Tunes), commencing from mELa karta 73. All these mELa kartas will employ the note "f#" in addition to "f", and formalise the Mishra RAga system of Hindusthani Music.
We can add the prefix "uMA (English meaning: big, enlarged, BothFs)" to the existing names of the "f" meLakartas 1 to 36.

I could not catch CarnaTic Music. Shri Rudrapatnam S. Ramakanth, a great Carnatic Classical Singer from Bangalore sang at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, Nada Neeraajanam Program, today 26th January 2016- the Republic Day in India.
But unfortunately, I believe that I might have lost my ears or the listening faculty, I could not enjoy the music in the right manner, in which Carnatic Music is normally appreciated. Some thing went wrong with me.
I switched on the TV slightly late. The Opening piece in tune "HamIr kalyANi" , song "Venkata Saila Vihara", announcement I could not listen to. While hearing the composition, I continuously felt that I was listening to the tune "SAranga". After the piece was completed, when the compere re-announced the tune of the completed song, I came back to life and rued for my error in listening.
It is true that, the Carnatic tune "Hamir kalyANi" and "sAranga" have some similarities. Both belong to kalyAN thAT (kalyANi, 65th mELa karta). Both the tunes use both the madhyamams-- pratimadhyamam (tIvr madhyam) and Suddha madhyamam. Both the tunes have same ascendence-- c,g,f#,g, a,b,c'. (sa, pa, Ma, pa, Dha, Ni, Sa).
In descendence, there is some difference.

The next item in Shri Rama Kanth's Concert was tera tiyaga rAdA (Why not open the curtain!) , addressed to Lord Venkateswara , by Tyagaraja, in the tune Gowlipantu. While singing this composition, Shri Rama Kanth truely gave not only his voice to Lord Venkateswara, but also his heart. The Greatness of Indian Music-- both of the Carnatic Genre and the Hindusthani Genre is, they make us believe even non-believables from the point of view of science, such as a curtain opens when a devotee sings with utmost devotion. I have no complaint about this.
While listening to the main item of the Concert, the "kalyANi, Adi tALam" piece, "alamElu manga nI abhinava rUpamu", I greatly faltered, whatever be the reason. Yesterday, 25.1.2016 in the same nAda nIrajanam program I heard to kalyANi, "pankaja lOcana" of SwAti TirunAl, by a highly talented Carnatic Singer from Visakhapatnam, Ms. B. Lakshmi Surya Teja, accompanied on violin by Ms. Surya Deepti. It was a masterpiece, and a great team effort of all the three --the singer, violinist and the percussionist. Probably, that kalyANi was still lingering in my mind.
Today, when I heard this kalyANi, "alimelu mangA, nI abhinava rUpam", sung by Shri R.S. Ramakanth, I could not, somehow, adjust to it. All the time, I felt that I was listening to the tune, the CarnATic tODi (c,c#,d#,f,g,g#,a#,c'). Except c & g which do not have soft and strong variations, all the other notes are soft notes. I, erroneously, thought that the announcer inadvertantly announced the tune's name as kalyANi instead of "CarnATic tODi".
For those who wish to view both the videos available at Youtube.Com, here are the links.
My error of mistaking kalyANi for tODi, may be owing to the differences in the AdhAra shadjamams (AdhAra Sritis) of the yesterday's concert, and today's concert.
Question: You have not so far written anything on the injustice done to Shri Rohit Vemula, at University of Hyderabad, the tempest of which has melted the heart of even our beloved Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. Won't you have any commitment to Society?
I believe that the injustices which are going on, are all symptoms of a bourgeoisie society. The origin of the injustices, and the root of the evils of the Caste System, earlier had in the Racialism of the Victorious against the Defeated Races, and at present lie in the monopoly of means of production in the hands of a small percentage of population, which should have legitimately belonged to the entire of Nation of 1.3 billion. Reservations are like the proverb "mEnamAma cevilO venTrukalu molavaTam (Sprouting of hair in the arlobes of Maternal Uncle)" which I have explained many times in my previous blog posts. We can't cure monstrous ailments like HIV and Cancer using ointments. A drastic, but-yet, democratic solution like FULLY IMPLEMENTED SOCIALISM IN ONE GO alone can help. Redistribution of Means of Production among 1.3 billion Indians is not workable, as such redistribution may create more inequalities. Hence, removal of private property, with guaranteed FREE provision of Food , Clothing, Shelter, Old Age Security, Health Care, Education (etc.) is the only solution. We may have to close down Prayer Houses of all Religions converting them into Rice, pulses, edible oil Godowns. We may have to remove money, Monetary System, and the Market Economy. We may have to remove even the Marriage and the Family System. For everything, education of Proletariat is the First Step, along with Population Control.

Tune dhAtuvardhani is from South Indian Classical Music, very popular as Carnatic Music. DhAtuvardhani is also called dhauta panchamam. It is an extremely rare rAga. The ascendant notes of dhAtu vardhani are: c,d#,e,f#, g,g#,b,c'. Descendant notes are c',b,g#,g, f#,e,d#,c. Part 2 of the tune, i.e. uttarAnga is same as those in the parent families (mELakartAs) gAnamUrty, dhEnuka, mAyAmALavagauLa, kIravANi, sarasAngi, gAngEyabhUshaNi, varALi, subhapantuvarALi, pantuvarALi, simhEndra madhyamam, latAngi. Its part 1 i.e. pUrvAnga is same as the other rAgAs in Aditya Cycle, of which it is a member. Hence, part 1 of the tunes sucaritam, jyOtisvarUpiNi, nAsikAbhUshaNi, kOsalam, rasikapriya match. dhAtuvardhani's family No. i.e. mELakarta No is 69 in the VenkaTamakhi's tune classification system. When we move more in part 1, we may get a feeling that we are hearing rAgAs like sucaritam, jyOtisvarUpini etc. group. When we move more in part 2, we may get a feeling that we are listening to the group of gAnamUrti, dhEnuka etc. In this composition, ybrao a donkey tries to depict the tune in North Indian style popularly called HindusthAni style, with refrain (sthAyi) and note-cycle-sets called tODe in vilambit and drutgat (slow and fast tempos), in 4-8-16 rhythm (called tIn tAL or Adi tALam). Errors if any, they belong to ybrao a donkey and not to great VenkaTamakhi.

Swami Vivekananda's birth day, January 12.
This 152nd birthday of Swami Vivekananda, our beloved Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi is not apparently nowadays allocating enough efforts, resources and time to show Swami Vivekananda, on the dais' he speaks. One twitter message. One garland to Swami Vivekananda's statue in New Delhi.
Last year, in every election meeting, or any other dais, wherever Mr. Modi spoke, Swami Vivekananda's picture/cutout was ubiquitous
Now, Mr. Modi, according to Indian Media and Governments is an International celebrity, on par with or more than, Obama, Putin, Merkel, Hollande, Shibu Abe, and Xi.
Now there may not be enough space for Gurus, living or deceased, political or spiritual. The need, now will more be, on NRI, PIO, Fortune 500, most powerful industrialists or top private bankers like Ms. Chanda Kochhar.
Probable reasons, for lower stress on Vivekananda this year, may be: Vibrant Gujarat dais was not convenient. US Secretary of State John Kerry was there. Busy with great arrangements to be made for Obama's Republic Day visit jamboree. On Delhi election dais' , Mr. Modi may be using Vivekananda pictures. Anyway, there is a reduced stress on Swami Vivekananda now.
This 'reduced stress on Guru happened even in the life of Swami Vivekananda. Initially, Swami Vivekananda used to eulogise his Guruji Ramakrishna Parama Hamsa, everywhere, everyday, every moment, with everybody he spoke. He tried to collect donations abroad, citing the need for construction of a memorial/temple for his Guru Ramakrishna. After Swamiji himself became a celebrity in his own right, Swamiji had no alternative except to eulogise himself. One or two examples from his life will give this suggestion: One: In Almorah, during Vivekananda's last years, when his disciple Mr. Savior wanted to give prominence to Ramakrishna's photoframe, Swamiji apparently persuaded him not to. Second: When Brahmananda wanted to worship Ramakrishna Paramahamsa following traditional ways, probably he Vivekananda wanted to save money, Swami Vivekananda wrote to him that tulasi water may do. But the same Vivekananda did not hesitate to send hundreds of dollars/pounds to Ms. Christina Greenstidel, to enable her to come to India, in higher class on a ship, and also ask her to spend the money as she liked, if she could not come to India.
Swamiji, during his last year, proudly wrote to Ms. Christina Greenstidel, that they sacrificed a goat during Durga Pooja. (This might have taken place outside the Math.)
Further search on this subject indicated that Sarada Mayi (w/o Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa ) discouraged the practice of sacrificing goats in Math, and started a practice of offering banana fruits to God(dess).

Information for North Indian HindusthAni Music
Not able to trace rAg/ThATh with same name in HindusthAni.
Probably can use same name vAcaspati in HindusthAni also.
rhythm: tIn tAL.
Information for South Indian Music
vAcaspati is an independent mother tune with No. 64. It ranks just before kalyANi which is 65.
vAcaspati uses ^a, but kalyAni uses b.
kalyAni is a more popular rAga. Hence till we hear ^a in a composition, we get a feeling that we are listening to kalyANi.
For composers: We have to copy and paste the following notation in a text editor and convert into mid file using abc2midi. Thereafter, depending on need, we can convert into wav and mp3 file.

Hindusthani Music (North Indian Music) does not have the Melodious Musical Tune Group (thAT) suvarNAngi, though it deserves to be a Mother tune.
Even in Carnatic Music, though SuvarNAngi is a mother tune, it is not popular. Classical Music itself does not have huge popularity. Then, where is the question of a rare tune like suvarNAngi getting public recognition? Besides, the problem with classical music is, to suck its succulance in true spirit and entirity, a person has to learn basics, and do some work. It is not suitable for lazy persons.
SuvarNAngi, is the second tune, in the six tune circle 'vasu cakra', of the second division ^f (pratimadhyam) rAgAs.

Is there a possibility that a chits scam similar to the Sarada Chits Scam which took place in Bengal & Orissa, breaks out in A.P. & Telangana?
Answer from Donkey's voice.
It is possible that such scams similar to Sarada Chits Scam, might have taken place in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana States also, but the possibilities of their breaking out open, are remote.
Oh donkey, can you give reason for your prophesy?
Many scams might have taken place in IT Sector. But why did Satyam Computers Scam alone burst out?
Many film stars are forced to or voluntarily take part in prostitution. But why did Sveta Basu's case alone flash out?
