885 Where is Vishvamitra's hermitage? North Nepal or in Bihar?

Vishvamitra is an Ancient Indian Sage who belongs both to Ramayana and Mahabharata. According to mythology, he lived both in trEtA yuga [Age of 3 legs, during which the Goddess of Righteousness, called 'dharma devata', often depicted as a cow, walks on its three legs, with its fourth leg broken, and in dvApara yuga (Age of 2 legs, during which the Goddess of Righteousness, limps with its two legs). This itself, appears incredible but mytho-fanatics believe, and want to force others to believe. As a compromise, we can for the time-being, accept a possibility. The word 'visvAmitra' (has two meanings: friend of the Universe, enemy of the Universe), itself may be a title given to eminent and respected persons, while they may have different biological names, given by parents. That means, the Valmiki Ramayan's Visvamitra, and the Vyasa Mahabharata's Visvamitra, were different Sages holding the title 'viSvAmitra'. This aspect, we can deal with in a different blog-post.

Our present task in this particular blog-post, is 'examining, how many abodes, vAlmiki Ramayana's Visvamitra lived in?'.

Before, the marriage of Shri Rama with Sita

Sage Visvamitra took the Princes Shri Rama and Lakshmana along with him for getting his 'sacrifice' protected from demons. In the first stage, at a place what is called tATaka forest, Shri Rama killed the demon tATaka. Then, the Sage and the two brothers come out of the tATaka forest. This tATaka forest, according to legends and tourist circuits is in North-Western Bihar.

In Chapter No. 28, Verse 19 (1-28-19), Shri Rama recognised that came out of the Tataka Forest, and entered a place called "Siddha Ashrama" (Hermitage of Great Attainers). According to Vishvamitra, it was first the Hermitage where Lord Vishnu appeared in his fifth/of tenth incarnations, "vAmana", a dwarf boy.

At verse No. 1-29-24, Vishvamitra requested Shri Rama to enter the Hermitage of Accomplishers (Siddhas), informing Shri Rama that hermitage belongs to Rama himself in his incarnation as vAmana, and inasmuch as it also belongs to him (Visvamitra).

adya gacChAmahe rAma

tat aashrama padam tAta tava
api etad yathaa mama ||

This verse indicates, siddhAshrama, was located just North of tATaka forest, and was in North-West Bihar.

ybrao-a-donkey's analyses which are not intended to be imposed on others

At this Siddhashrama, Shri Rama, with his arrows, killed the younger demon brother Subahu, and dispensed the elder brother mArIca to Southern Ocean. Thus Princes Shri Rama and Lakshmana, successfully protected the Sacrifice of Sage Vishvamitra, at this SiddhAShrama, which is in Bihar State.

After this Episode, Sage ViSvAmitra received an invitation from King Janaka of Mithila Kingdom, to witness his daughter Sita's Self-Selection (svayamvaram) and Wedding ceremony. Sage Vishvamitra took the Princes Shri Rama and Lakshmana to Mithila Kingdom, which is further Northwards and is in Nepal.

vAlmIki rAmAyanA's Vishvamitra's abode, in Vol.1 Balakanda, Chapter 74 , Verse 1 (1-74-1)

After Shri Rama's marriage with Sita, Lakshmana's marriage with Urmila, Bharata's marriage with Mandavi, and Satrughna's marriage with Sritakirti,-- next morning

atha rAtryaam vyatItAyaam
vishvAmitrO mahaamuniH |
ApriSTvaa tau ca raajAnau
jagAma uttara parvatam ||

Approx. English Gist: The night expired. The Great Sage Visvamitra woke up all the kings, Rama and Lakshmana, sought their leave, and left towards Northern Mountains (Himalayan Mountains).

ybdonkey's observation: After the wedding, to go back to his hermitage, Sage Vishvamitra ought to have proceeded Southwards i.e. from Nepal to Bihar. Instead, the above verse shows that he proceeded Northwards into Northern Mountains, i.e. Himalayas. This may give rise to another possibility: Vishvamitra might have had TWO Hermitages, one in Northern Nepal, and the other in North-West Bihar.

Are there three routes of Aryan migration into India, instead of just one?

This was earlier discussed by me at my Ramayanayb blog: Click here, if you wish to have a look at Ramayanayb blog written by me

Ans: There seem to be more than three routes:

1. Latvia-Lithuania (Baltics) to Romania (Balkans), Central Asia, Afghanisthan, Kashmir, Punjab, Western UP route.

2. Another branch of above: Latvia-Lithuania (Baltics) to Romania (Balkans), Central Asia, Afghanisthan, Kashmir, Ladakh, Tibet, Nepal, Bihar. (Valmiki Ramayana's Ayodhya may be in UP's present Faizabad Ayodhya, or a Bihar Village called 'Ayodhya gunj' in Vaishali, north of Hajipur. If Bihar-Vaishali's Ayodhya is accepted as Ramayana's Ayodhya, instead of UP's Ayodhya, we can consider that this Branch of Aryan Migration is independent of Ganga, Yamuna Rivers. Of course, Sarayu River flows into Ganga River in East-UP/ West-Bihar Border. Vishvamitra-Rama-Lakshmana crossed this confluence to move Northwards, during their onward journey towards Tataka Forest, Sidhdhashrama, Mithila. (Note: There is a District in Bihar, named after Sage vAlmiki, on the Bihar-Nepal Borders, near Darbhanga and Sitamarhi (Sita's birth place which is in North Bihar).

3. Well-known Iranian route, through Pakisthan, Punjab, and Delhi. This may probably be the ancestors Mahabharata-Pandava Aryans. My readers may be fully aware, that most part of Mahabharata took place in Punjab, Rajasthan, Hariyana, and North UP. Some of these Iranian Aryans might have come from Greece and Rome, with their practices of phallus worship. The Bihari-Tibeti Aryans might have fought with the ancestors of Punjab-Hariyana-Rajasthan-North UP Aryans (ancestors of Pandavas) for survival.

A comparison of Valmiki Ramayan and Vyasa Mahabharata, in giving importance to Lord Shiva

Both Valmiki Ramayana, and vyAsa Mahabharata are 'VishNu' oriented scriptures. Though Shiva was also an Aryan Vedic God, with name 'Rudra', basically both the Epics are VishNu scriptures, because they deal with VishNu's incarnations. Anjaneya as an incarnation of Lord Shiva, I am unable to trace in Valmiki Ramayana. Ravana's great devotion to Lord Shiva, I am unable to trace in Valmiki Ramayana. Valmiki Ramayana's reference to Lord Shiva seems to be only for the purpose of Shri Rama's breaking Shiva's bow. In other words, Ramayana is less of a Shiva oriented Epic, when compared to Vyasa Mahabharata, which though tries to establish Lord Krishna as the supreme God, also acknowledges Shiva as mahAdEva (mahA=Great, dEva=God). According to mahAbhArata, though Krishna is the friend-philosopher-and guide of Arjuna, and Ramayana's Anjaneya mounted on the flag of Arjuna, the later Parvas (volumes of Mahabharata) show that it was Shiva who leading in front, drove Arjuna, Krishna, Anjaneya, towards success.

At the moment, all the above analysis is only a guess-work of ybdonkey.

4th HERMITAGE OF SAGE VISHWAMITRA AT GAUHATI, ASSAM,

21st Century Spots of these places

For those readers who are devotees of Shri Rama, I provide a link to a travel-experience blog of a devotee Ms. Devika Varadarajan, Hyderabad: Click here to see the photos of the places discussed above, which are in Bihar. I am neither supporting nor denying the legends/episodes, described in this Travel blog, which is very very readable and joy-generating. But viewing things from angles of 'history', is different from a religious-devotee's view or a tourist's view.

630 Part 1 of Family members need not just be shareholders, stakeholders. They can also be adviisers.

Mr. Malladi Vishnu, Former Congress M.L.A., from Vijayawada Central Constituency, according to some news reports is the owner of the Krishna Lanka bar in which 8 people were killed and 29 people were injured in an (said-to-be) adulterated liquor tragedy.

Shri Vishnu is reported to have clarified:
"...The bar does not belong to me as reported by some Sections of Media. It belongs to my relatives. ... I came to know that those who mixed mineral water in their drinks are found safe, but those used water from a water cooler in the bar reportedly affected. So, I suspect something poisonous was mixed in the water cooler. I have nothing to do with the bar. I demand for a thorough investigation and severe action against those involved in the heinous crime. ...".

In Telugu language, there is a proverb "kance yE cEnu mEsina". Its approximate English gist works out like this: A fence is installed by farmers to save their crops from grazing animals. Now, suppose, the fence itself grazes the field out...(Here the proverb is exclaiming what can be done if fence itself grazes in the field!).

People's representatives are invited to schools, Colleges, and Universities to say some good things to students, so as to develop a sense of morality in them. As a sequel to such requests, people's representatives give sermons to students, teachers, lecturers, Professors and citizens. In other words Members of Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, Parliament are expected to guide the society and motivate people to traverse a path of ethical values. They are expected to dissuade citizens from falling prey to alcoholism and prostitution. They themselves are not expected to run bars and wineshops. Now, here is our People's Representative who is trying to pass on the buck to his relatives, as those who were owing the wineshop and the bar.

Listed as Accused No. 9, in the Adulterated Liquor Tragedy case, now the former M.L.A. is at large. He is said to be in Hyderabad. Of course, he might have met some eminent lawyers and might have sought their help for getting an anticipatory bail, or seek their counsel about when and where to surrender. He may coolly surrender before some Court, with supporting operations from some lawyers.

What should be the role of relatives when they find that their family member is deviating from an ethical path? Nobody knows whether they have at any time counselled or tried to counsel our Former MLA? The bar licence is said to be in Mother's name. Was she rejoicing when her son was making big bucks through liquor trade? Was she signing all the documents, applications, undertakings of the liquor licence blindfold?

In Telugu language, there is a proverb: "tOTakUra nADe cheppaka pOtivE O amma!". Its approximate English meaning works out as under:

A boy used to steal leaf-vegetables (amaranthus gangeticus) from a nearby field, and hand them over to his mother for cooking. Whenever he gave these leaf-vegetables, the boy's mother used to show her happiness. Gradually he grew up, and became a bigger thief/ robber. When police arrested him, his mother wept and said that he ought not to have commited the thefts. Then the grown-up boy asked his mother: "Why didn't you tell me this earlier, when I stole amaranthus and gave you for cooking ."

Even wives (21st Century term WAGs i.e. wives and girl friends) in Indian culture have a duty to counsel their husbands.

In Book 3, Chapter 9, Valmiki Ramayan, Sita counselled Shri Rama against his carrying bows and arrows, and killing demons in Dandaka Forest, UNPROVOKED. In verse 30 she highlighted the importance of probity and steadfastnss.
ENGLISH GIST: From virtuosity arises prosperity. Virtuosity leads to happiness. From virtuosity we can get everything. The essence of virtuosity, is this world.

In Valmiki Ramayan, Ravana's wife Mandodari tried to dissuade her husband from traversing an evil and perilous path. In Mahabharata, on a few occasions, Draupadi counselled Pandavas.

In those days of Epic Age, though it was the eldest brother who normally counsels his younger brothers, there are occasions when younger brothers too advised the elder brothers. Younger brothers need not share in spoils of elder brothers.

We have the flashback story of Sage Valmiki, who was asked by Sage Narada to go and inquire with his (Valmiki's) wife, whether she will share his sins also. Valmiki's wife refused to share sins. Rejected by wife, Valmiki fell at the feet of Narada and in turn received Rama mantra.

554 Will the State Govt. drive out the residents of the three vilages by neck now?

Will the Andhra Pradesh Government drive away the Residents of Uddandarayapalem, Tallayapalem, and Velagapudi villages, which have to be erased for building the Capital for the new State of Residual Andhra Pradesh? Can the Government do it without bloodshed? Can AP Chief Minister do it, before he gets arrested in the Cash for Vote Scam by the Telangana Govt.? Can the AP CM get the Telangana CM arrested in the Phone Tapping case, before KCr does the same thing to Mr. CBN? We need a thousand Sherlock Holmes and Watsons to break this cruel game of mutual acrimony.

As per the plan for Seed Capital prepared by the Singapore Government, and if the A.P. Government wants to get the Foundation Stone for A.P. State Capital laid by the Hon. Prime Minister of India in Oct. 2015, the A.P. Government will have to evict the Residents of the three villages and raze the houses to ground, for laying roads etc. Of course, for facilitating this, Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, will have to make another garland of promises to the Residents of these villages, such as alloting them high value luxury 3BR flats in the Capital City! They have to show some rainbow like dreams for the unfortunate villagers.

One of the earlier promises made by Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu and his Committee members is that villages, streets, and dwelling houses, in the Capital Area will not be disturbed.

These three villages may be tiny in size. But they are all historical villages of the Kakatiya and Vijayanagara heritage.

Assuming that Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu, and his successors continue this orgy upto the year 2050, (may be Jagan, may be Congress, may be BJP, may be some Pavan's Jana Sena, may be some other coalition Govt.), what will be the fate of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the People ruled by it?

Let us assume that the farmers who have surrendered their agricultural farms and the dwelling villages to the Capital, get their Commercial plots, Residential plots, Apartments, on a golden plate (this may not happen because the Private Developers who take up mega projects have knack cheating, and demand international arbitration, if any dispute arises. So, await, some global commercial disputes and arbitration, intervention of Governments.). We must learn from the demands made by the European lenders and lending countries on the Government of Greece in the recent bailout negotiations?

Let us dream that Japanese or Singapore or some XYZ foreign developers spend billions of Rupees and Dollars from their kitty (this also may not really happen. Remember the Dhabol Power Project Disaster! Foreign Developers will also borrow from Indian Banks for meeting their Project costs. Hence, all risks, in essence will be borne by the lending Indian Banks, may be Public Sector Banks, even if Private Sector Banks- depositors for the Indian Private Banks are also Indian public.).

Then, what will be the fate of the A.P. Government? Most of the Residents of Apartments in Andhra Pradesh and India know paying what are known as Monthly Maintenance charges. Even for a small apartment of 600 sqft., our apartment-residents pay about Rs. 2,000 per maintenance charges. If the foreign private Developers allot some floors in their skyscrapers to A.P. Government, what will be the Monthly Maintenance Charges the Developers levy on the A.P. Government? After all, the Foreign Developers run their businesses for profit, they are not philanthropic organisations.

QUESTION: You are pointing out the problems. Don't highlight the problems, we know them. Suggest solutions.

Government of Andhra Pradesh wasted nearly Rs. 20 billion (2,000 crore) on conducting the Godavari Pushkaras bathing festival in East and West Godavari Districts. Instead of that, had the Government made it a simpler Rs. 5 billion (500 crore) affair, the remaining Rs. 15 billion (1,500 crore) could have been used to build a small, vanilla Administrative Building Complex of 1 + 2 floors on Government lands wherever they are available READILY and DISPUTE FREE, without a need to DISLOCATE PEOPLE. If the Central Government gives another Rs. 5,000 crore (@ Rs. 1,000 crore every year), over a period of five years, we could have had a reasonably decent Capital (Not the Singapore type!).

Even now, it is not too late! The A.P. Government is going to spend another Rs. 2,000 crore on the Krishna Pushkaras (Krishna River bathing festival) in 2016. The A.P. Government can limit the festival to just Rs. 500 crore, use the remaining Rs. 1,500 crore for raising 1+2 (Ground Flour + two stairs) complexes.

Even now, I suggest that Residual Andhra Pradesh should initially build a small vanilla 1+2 or 1+5 floor Administrative Capital at small places like Nagarjuna Sagar, Nandikotkur, Atmakur, Donakonda, Jangareddigudem (where enough Govt. land is available, with nearby rivers for drinking water). Note: I do not own any plots at these places.. As a medium-term plan for 2050, we can have three Capitals one each in North Andhra, South Andhra and Rayala Seema. Cost of each can be within an upper limit of Rs. 5,000 crore each, @ Rs. 1,000 crore per annum to be collected from the Central Government.

People of Andhra Pradesh should know the reasons for Singapore's apparent prosperity. Singapore like other World Commercial Centres and Tax Havens of the World thrives on secret funds circulating in the Global Financial World. Everybody knows that these Funds are not clean! Though the people of such Global Financial Cities look wealthy and leading luxurious life, they will be undergoing great mental stress and agony, in their day-to-day manoeures to survive in the Shark-eats-man Financial Seas. Though the people of Andhra Pradesh suffered a thousand years of turmoil under Muslim invasions, colonial European rulers, attacks from Pindaris and Thugs, all those sufferings will be miniscule when compared to the stress of living in Global Financial Havens. It will be worse than the nuclear radiation emitted by leaks from CHERNOBYL or FUKUSHIMA reactors.

People of Residual Andhra Pradesh should work hard, to identify new independent Candidates, and probably some candidates from parties like CPI and CPM, for the 2019 elections. A promise should also be obtained from them that they will decentralise administration to all the three Regions, and that they will concentrate more on reviving our villages which are rotting due to Governmental and public neglect.

Context of the photo of Respectable Shri Pavan Kalyan, Telugu Film star, and Shri Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, Former Congress and present TDP Member of Parliament, Narasaraopet Constituency.

Shri Rayapati Sambasiva Rao is a seasoned and veteran Senior Parliament Member. Unfortunately, in Sept. 2014, he demoted himself to a level of celebrating and cutting cakes for a youthful film star like Pavan Kalyan. This is like "kunjara yUdhambu dOma kuttuka jocchen" (Elephant entering into the throat of a mosquito).

Shri Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad, a former Minister in the United A.P. Govt. is a disciple of Shri Rayapati. When Mr. Rayapati deserted Congress before 2014 Elections, Shri Dokka could not jump. He might have been regretting his decision now. His guru Shri Rayapati might have convinced him saying "Better late than, never.". Mr. Prasad used to cut cakes for his guru's birthday. We can hope that he will now continue his custom.

Shri Rayapati Sambasiva Rao was reported to have said at Vijayawada, on August 2015.

BJP Govt. is doing wrong. ... First, UPA Government primarily made a mistake. ... At present, about the Special Status, it is adament. ... In this matter, both BJP and TDP will suffer loss.

... When Prime Minister Narendra Modi is present in India? His is a visiting visa.

If Jana Sena leader Mr. Pavan Kalyan leads from front, we shall walk behind him (accompany him).

Pl. take it lightly. You need not agree with me.

One should stand in front, while claiming contracts, posts, temple darsanas, tickets, bank loans. One should stand behind in case of Peoples' Movements.

I read Ramayana Visha Vriksham of Ranganayakamma about 30 years back. I recollect at one place, she pointed out Shri Rama, may be for joke and irony, that Shri Rama always preferred to walk behind Lakshmana , Sita and himself at the tail, in a single filament. Her view might have been Shri Rama was more conscious about his own safety than the safety of Lakshmana in the forefront. Context: Lakshmana, Sita and Rama entered the forest as a part of their 14 year exile and they were walking towards ChitrakUTa Hills. In forests, of those days, or even now, when people walk on single-line paths with trees on both sides, there is a danger of wild animals, demons, robbers attacking the first person in the forefront. As far as I can remember, she seems to have expressed a view, may be for generating laughter, that Rama wanted to flee if there was such real danger to life. That perspective may not be correct, because Rama fought courageously with the demon Ravana in Yuddha kAnDa.

Similarly our Respectable Rayapati Sambasiva Rao may be keen on standing behind.

Neither Mr. Pavan Kalyan nor Mr. Sambasiva Rao may not take up an adventure of leading from forefront, prima facie, they are in activities of making some millions of Rupees, may be through acting in films, contracts such as Polavaram, tobacco and cotton spinning, so on, so forth.

For those who want proof about Shri Rama walking at the tail end, here is the relevant quote from Valmiki Ramayana.
Valmiki Ramayan 2-52-98 and 2-52-99

English script:
praNashta jana sambandham kshetrarama vivarjitam

English gist: Sita will enter forest, where population density will be thin, and devoid of houses and fields. Terrain will be difficult. We shall enter a rough forest.

Hearing Rama's words, LakshmaNa stood in the forefront. Sita followed him. Then Raghava followed.

Hindi Gist:

Telugu gist:

514 Where from did India borrow its phallus worship?

Appropriate evidence is not available to believe that the culture of worshipping human sex organs has its origin in India.   Wherefrom it was imported into India?

The above photo of main deity's sculpture in Gudimallam Parasurameswara Temple (near Chennai), Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, is very clear about the similarities between Siva Lingas and human penis.

Both Siva (including phallus) worship and Vishnu worship , seem to belong to European origin. While the Siva worship seems to have a Crete (near Greece) origin, Vishnu worship seems to have Latvian/Lithuavian/Old Prussian origin.

Both Vishnu worshippers and Shiva worshippers seem to be European, closely knitted with one another. This is in contrast to the current belief that Vishnu worshippers were Aryans and Shiva worshippers were Dravidians. I believe that both Aryans and Dravidians may be Europeans. The battles between Shiva worshippers and Vishnu worshippers were only internecine squirmishes.

We shall take, for example, the above photo of parasurAmESwara in Gudimallam. Its installer is said to be ParaSu Rama. According to Valmiki Ramayana, he was a staunch believer of Lord Vishnu. In Valmiki Ramayana, Balakanda (Book 1), after the wedding of Shri Rama and Sita, Parasurama suddenly emerges and frightens everybody.

According to Shiva Purana, Rudra Samhita, at Daksha's sacrifice, after Shiva's first wife died in a self-generated fire, Lord Shiva got much agitated. When Shiva plucked a hair of his and dropped on ground, Gods Virabhadra and Bhadra Kali were born. Veerabhadra challenged God MahavishNu for a fight and defeated him. Then VishNu fled to his abode, to save himself.

Lord VishNu got his disc freed. Then he took his "Sarngna bow" and sent three arrows from it, towards Lord Virabhadra.

VIrabhadra broke all the three arrows sent by VishNu.

Then Creator God Brahma, and his wife- Goddess of Learning- Saraswati, informed him about the Great powers of Shiva's forces, and suggested him to disappear. VishNu disappeared from the battle scene and went back to his abode, VaikunTham.

Thus, Shiva Purana narration was very clear about Vishnu's defeat.

Valmiki Ramayana Chapter 66, verse 10 and 11 say that Gods were agitated when Shiva threatened them to behead them with his Shiva bow, because they did not give him his share of oblations. In verse 11, there is a presumption of their surrendering to him, and Shiva's getting pleased (prasAdiyati dEvESa) with their supplication. But the verses are silent about failure of VishNu's disc and bow. Nor the verses mention whether Vishnu was among the defeated Gods.

On the other hand, subsequently, Creator God, and Sages create a situation of conflict between Lord Shiva and Lord VishNu. In the test, when VishNu made a 'hum' sound, Shiva and his bow got petrified (unabled to move, became stonelike, static).

Valmiki Ramayana, Book 1, Sarga 75 (Chapter 75) deals with the scene. 17th verse.

In English script (Roman script)
tadA jrimbhitam Saivam dhanur bhIma parAkramam
humkArENa mahAdEvah stambhitO atha trilOcanaha.

(After destruction of daksha's sacrifice by Lord Shiva, everybody thought that Shiva was the Supreme Lord. But sages wanted to test it. Creator God Brahma, encouraged a rift between the two, and brought them at a place for a conflict.) When VishNu made a "hum" sound, it made Shiva's bow to stupify-petrify (become like a stone).

ParaSurAma was a VishNu worshipper, and is considered as sixth incarnation among the ten incarnations of Lord VishNu.  It should, therefore, be improbable of him installing a phallus and worshipping it.  This aspect, historians have to go through to trace further evidences/materials in depth and width.

103 Doesn't jaTAyu know where Europeans, Americans, Africans and Chinese have come from?
