1024 Part1/2 of Telugu people are fortunate to have had YEnugu lakshmaNa kavi, 17th Century AD, circa.

Many Towns and Villages in India have stories and legends associated with the Pandavas of Vyasa Mahabharata. The above image is believed to be a Cave, visted by Bhima, the Second brother, among the Pandavas. It is possible-probable that Pandavas might have visited South India, during their 12 year exile to Forests, after having lost their game of dice with the Kauravas. Anyway, that part is mythological, for which more historical evidences may be necessary. In the meantime, we can share the beliefs of locals.

Peddapuram is also reported to be the Native Place of the Memorable Telugu Poet Yenugu Lakshmana Kavi (also Enugu Lakshmana kavi) who is believed to have lived in the 17th and 18th Centuries. Inter Alia (among other things), Yenugu Lakshmana Kavi translated the 300 verses of the 7th Century Sanskrit Poet, whose work is known as 'subhAshita tri Sati' (Engl: 300 verses of good sayings). The first is nIti Satakam (100 verses of Ethics). The second is Sringara Satakam (100 verses of Love), and the third is vairAgya Satakam (100 verses of Renunciation). These three hundred verses, I have translated into English Prose a few years back, with original verses in Roman Script, with their English Gist. While building a database for storing and searching Telugu verses, I found that Telugu verses of Bhartrihari's Vairagya Satakam by Yenugu Lakshmana Kavi were not added by me. PDF books with verses in Telugu Script, and gist in Telugu language+script, are available both for purchase and free to download. But they are not in search-able digital form. Hence, I have tried to type the 100 verses of Yenugu Lakshmana Kavi's VAiragya Satakam in Telugu script, and post them here. 50 I could complete in this Part 1. Remaining 50, I shall post in a few days.

I shall also provide English Script for these verses, together with English gist. If there are any major variations between Bhartrihari's Sanskrit original source, and Lakshmana Kavi's Telugu verses, I shall try to write here my perceptions.

శ్రీరమణ ధృత మృదంగ గ ShrI ramaNa dhrita mridanga ga-
భీర ధిమింధిమి నాద భేద క్రమయో -bhIra dhimin dhimi nAda bhEda krama yO-
గ్యారంభ గుంభ నటన -gyArambha gumbha naTana

English Gist:

This verse is a prayer to Lord sOmESa (Shiva) of peddApuram, the locale of our poet Shri yEnugu lakshmaNa kavi. Lord Shiva is a Great Dancer, his dance called 'Shiva tAnDavam'. It is believed that Lord VishNu (=shri ramaNa, above) provides percussion drums to Lord Shiva. Mridanga is the drum which makes subtle gentle rhythmic sounds (=dhimin dhimi). nAda bhEda krama yOga = Variations in rhythmic cycles, and the percussion and Shiva's dance play in harmony , hence 'yOga'. Shri ranjita refers to the Glory of the Dwelling of Lord sOmESa, which is described as 'sukha nivESa (=comfortable home). See the depth of the first verse itself. (This verse is in an independent Telugu verse, not used by bhartruhari in his Sanskrit original.)

చం. విసిగితి దుర్గ దుర్విషయ విభ్రమయుక్తిఁ గులాభిమానమున్

యసము వలెన్ భుజించిఁ ప్రయత్నము నిష్ఫలమై నశించె సం

చం. నిథి యను శంక భూతలము నిచ్చలు త్రవ్వితి నావచే మహో
దధిన్ తరియించితిన్ శిఖరి ధాతువు లూదితి రాజు గొల్చితిన్
వ్యథగొని ఘోరమంత్ర జప మర్ధి నొనర్చితి గవ్వయైన ఏ
విధమునన్ పొందనైతిన్ కద వే ముద మందగదే దురాశతో.

చం. పలువలు పల్కు మాటలొక భంగి సహించితి బాష్పవారి లో
పలనె హరించి శూన్యమగు భావమునన్ వెడ నవ్వు నవ్వితిన్
పొలుపరి విత్త జాడ్యహత బుధ్ధుల కంజలి చేసితిం కటా
తలకొక ఇంకన్ ఏపనికి తార్చెదు నన్ను దురాశ నీ విటన్.

మ. నళినీ పత్రగతాంబు చంచలము లెన్నం ప్రాణముల్ వీనికై
కళిత ప్రజ్ఞత మేము చేయని యసత్కార్యంబు లేదేమియున్
బలవద్ విత్త మదాతిరేక జనితాపస్మారులైనట్టి లు
బ్ధుల మ్రోలన్ నిజ సద్గుణ స్తుతి మహాదోషంబు కావించుటన్.

మ. క్షమచే కాదవమానమోర్చుట, మహా సంతుష్టిచే కాదు గే
హమునం దైన సుఖంబు మానుట తపో వ్యాసక్తిచే కాదు దు
ర్దమ శీతోష్ణజయంబు కాదు హరుపై ధ్యానంబు విత్తంబు పై
అమరెన్ మాకు మునీంద్ర కృత్యములు లేవాసత్ఫలాభ్యున్నతుల్.

English Gist: Days of Enjoyments have elapsed. Days of Penance and YOgA have left. The Workshop of Great Lust-Thirst has no recess/remission. The Lust is bringing Great Tumult.

English gist: Limbs etc. organs have lost their stamina and strength. Folds and wrinkles arose on face. Hair grayed. Endless lust-thirst alone holds its youthfulness.
శా. భోగాపేక్ష తొలంగెఁ పూజ్యత చెడెన్, పోరాని మిత్రుల్ మహా
భాగుల్ సెల్లిరి, దండ మూత కొనుటల్ ప్రాప్తించెన్ కన్నుల్ తమో
రోగఛ్ఛన్నములయ్యె దేహము జరారూఢంబు ప్రాణానిల
త్యాగాపాయ భయంబునన్ వడకెడున్ తానెంత సమ్మూఢమో.

చం. కలిత మనోరథంబులుదకంబులు తృష్ణలు భూరివీచికా
వళులనురాగముల్ మకర వర్గము మోహ వితర్కముల్, సుడుల్
పులుగులు కాగ ధైర్య ఫల భూజముఁ కూల్చు దురాశపేరి పు
ష్కల నది దాటి నిత్యసుఖసంపదఁ కాంతురు యోగిపుంగవుల్.

విషయత్యాగ విడంబనము
చం. భవమున పుట్టు సత్క్రియ శుభంబని చూడుము, పుణ్య కర్మ గౌ
రవ ఫలమైన సంపద కరంబు భయావహ మెన్ని చూచినం
ప్రవిమల పూర్వ పుణ్య సముపార్జిత చందన ముఖ్యభోగ వై
భవమును భోగశీలుర కపాయము చేయను వృధ్ధి పొందెడున్.

చం. ఉరుగతి తోడ ఏగు తడవుండియు భోగము లట్టివానిఁ తా
నరుడు పరిత్యజింపడు, కనంగన తద్విరహంబు భిన్నమే
పురుషు విభోగమున్ విడిచి భూరి మనోవ్యధలాచరించు నా
పురుషుడే భోగమున్ విడిచి పొందు నిరామయ శాంతి సౌఖ్యముల్.

ఉ. అనఘులు బోధపూర్ణులు మహాత్ములు భోగ నిధానమౌ మహా
ధనముఁ పరిత్యజింతురు గత స్పృహులై పరమాద్భుతంబుగా
మునుపును పొందకిపుడును ముట్టక యింకను చెందలేక నె
మ్మనంబున తోచు భోగముల మానగజాలము మేమొకింతయున్.

చం. గిరిగుహలన్ వసించి వృష కేతన చింతన మాచరించు స
త్పురుషుల సమ్మదాశ్రుకణ పుంజముఁ క్రోలుచుఁ అంకశయ్యలం
దిరవుగ నుండు పక్షులు సమిధ్ధ మనః కృత సౌధ వాపికా
వర వన కేళి శీలురగు వారల కాయువె విక్షతంబగున్.

చం. నిరతము తిండి బిచ్చమగు, నీరస మద్దియు నొక్కపూటయే
ధరణితలంబు సెజ్జ, నతతంబున తోడు శరీర మాత్రమే
చిరుగుల చీర తున్క కమి చేత నమర్చిన బొంత పుట్టమీ
కరణి మెలంగినన్ విషయ కాంక్ష లొకింతయుఁ పాయవక్కటా.

చం. స్తనములు మాంస పిండములు, చక్కని బంగరు కుండలంచు నా
సనము కఫాలయంబు తుహిన ద్యుతిల్యమటంచు మూత్రభా
జన జఘన స్థలంబు కరి చారు శిరస్సమ మంచు కామినీ
జన మలినాంగముల్ సుకవి చాతురి వర్ణన కెక్కెన్ ఇమ్మహిన్.

ఉ. కాముకులందు మేన్ సగము కాంతకు నిచ్చెను శంకరుండె ని
ష్కాములలోనఁ పంచశరశాసనుకన్న పరుండు కల్గడు
ద్దాము మనోజ బాణ విష దగ్ధులు తక్కిన మూఢు లోపరే
సీమల భామినీసుఖముఁ చేరి భుజింపఁ పరిత్యజింపగన్.

చం. తెలియక నాశ హేతువగు తీవ్ర తరానలకీల లోపలన్
శలభము చొచ్చుకాక, మతి చాలక మీనము గాలపుం గొనం
గల పిశితంబు తామెసగుఁ కాక, యెరింగియు మేము దుఃఖదో
హల వనితా సుఖంబు విడనాడము, మోహ మహత్త్వ మెట్టిదో.

ఉ. శీతర వారి త్రావు వడఁ చెందినవాడు క్షుధార్తుడిష్ట మృ
ష్టాతత భక్ష్య మాంస కలితాన్నము సాపడు, మన్మథాగ్ని తా
పాతురుడైన వాడు జవరాలికవుంగిటిలోన చేర్చుఁ ఈ
రీతిని రోగ శాంతి కర కృత్యము భోగ మనంగ చెల్లునే.

చం. పొడువులు మాడువుల్, ఘనులు పుత్రులు, పెక్కులు రమ్య సంపదల్
పడతుక చారుశీల, యెలప్రాయమటంచు నరుండు మూఢుడై
కడు జగమెల్ల శాశ్వతముగా కొని సంసృతి బంది లోపలం
బడుఁ ఇది మాయయంచు మతి మంతుడు తావిడుచున్ సమస్తమున్.

యాచనా దైన్య దూషణము.
ఉ. ఆకొని యేడ్చు లేఁ చిరుత లన్నముకై తనకొంగు లాగ పె
ల్లాకట సోలచుండెడు నిజంగన దుర్దశ చూడడేని యా
చ్ఞాకలనా విభంగ భయ సంభృత గద్గద శూన్య కంఠుడై
చేకొని దేహి యంచడుగ చేరునె కాలిన పొట్ట కెవ్వడున్.

శా. మాన గ్రంధి విభేదన క్షమము శుంభధ్ ధైర్య గాంభీర్యము
ఖ్యానేక ప్రియ సద్గుణాంబుజ సముహ జ్యోత్స్న లజ్జా లతా
హాని స్ఫార కుఠార ధార జఢరం బన్నట్టి పెన్ బాన యౌ
రా (ఔరా) నిండారదు దైన్య వృత్త్య భినయ ప్రాగల్భ్యముం చూపుచున్.

చం. అవని సురావళీ హుత హతాశన కోమల ధూమ ధూమలా
ప్రవిశద వాటి యందు వన భాగము నందు, కపాల పాణియై
భవనములందు భిక్ష కొని ప్రాణము తాల్చుట కొంత మేలు బాం
ధవులను చేరి వేడి కడు దైన్యము చెందు కంటె మానికిన్.

తే.గీ. పూత గంగోర్మి శీకర శీతలములు
లలిత విద్యాధరాఢ్య శిలా తలములు
హిమగిరి స్థానములు నశియించె నొక్కొ
నరులు నిందిత పరపిండ నిరతులగుట.

మ. ఇలఁ కందంబులు మూలముల్ మడిసెనో, యేళ్ళింకినో, కొండలన్
ఫలముల్ నారలు వృక్ష శాఖల యెడన్ పాడయ్యెనో చూడ, కే
వల దుఃఖాప్త మితార్ధ గర్వ పవన వ్యానర్తిత భ్రూల స
త్ఖల భూపాస్యము లర్ధి చూచెదరె, భ్రాంత స్వాంతులై యాచకుల్.

చం. ప్రవిమల కందమూల ఫల పంక్తుల జీవికఁ చేయుముర్విపై
నవసవపల్లవంబుల నొనర్పుము పానుపు లెమ్ము పాపనా
టవికిని పోవుము అయ్యెడ దృఢ ద్రవిణామయ దర్వికార గౌ
రవవికలోక్తులై మెలగు రాజుల పేరును చెప్ప డెవ్వడున్.

చం. కలవు ప్రచేళిమంబులయి, కావల లోపల పండ్లు మ్రాకులం
కలవు పవిత్ర వాహినుల కమ్మని శీతల వారి పూరమున్
కలను చివుళ్ల పాాన్పు లవి, కైకొన నేరక దీనులై ధనా
ఢ్యులగవనిన్ వసించి నరులోలి సహింతురు తీవ్ర తాపమున్.

చం. ధనపతి మ్రోల నిల్చి కడు దైన్యము చూపెడు వార లెవ్వరో
ఘన విషయాభిలాష మతి కల్పన మీరిన నీచలెవ్వరో
మొనయుచు వారి దుష్ట దినముల్ మది నవ్వి తలంతుఁ ఆత్మచిం
తనము తుదిన్ గుహాంతరమునన్ రుచిరోపలతల్పశాయినై.

మ. వరసంతోష నిరంతర ప్రముదితుల్ వర్ణింప నెవ్వారు ని
ర్భరముల్ వారికి మోదముల్ కలకలుబ్ధస్వాంతులౌ వారికిన్
విరతిన్ పొందదు తృష్ణ, యెవ్వనికి కావింపబడెన్ బ్రహ్మచే
స్థిర సంపన్నిధి మేరు వాత్మ ధృత లక్ష్మీకంబు నా కిష్టమే.

మ. అభివర్ణింతురు యోగిపుంగవులు, భిక్షాహారమున్ వీతదై
న్యభరా క్రోథ మదాభిమాన జడిమాహంకారమున్ సత్సుఖ
ప్రభవంబ శ్రమలభ్య మూర్జిత మవార్యంబ(బు) అక్షయంబుగ్రదుః
ఖభిదాదక్షము శంభుసత్రము మహా కైవల్య సత్పాత్రమున్. 30.

చం. బలగుణ రూప భోగ కుల భర్మ కళేబర శాస్త్ర మానముల్
బలి ఖల రుగ్జరాచ్యుతి నృపాలయ ప్రతివాది దైన్య సం
కుల భయయుక్తముల్ నరులకున్ భువి నిర్భయంబులే
నెలకొని యెన్ని భంగులను నిర్భయమొక్క విరాగమే సుమీ.

చం. జననము చావుచేత, శమ సౌఖ్యము కాంతలలీలల చేత, జ
వ్వనము జరార్తి చేత, గుణ వర్గము కూళల చేత, రాజు దు
ర్జనముల చే, ముదంబు ధనరాగముచే, సిరులెల్ల లేమి చే,
వినిహతి చెందు, దోష పరి విధ్ధము కాదె తలంప నెద్దియున్.

శా. ఆది వ్యాధి శతంబుచే, జనుల ధైర్యంబెల్ల నిశ్శోభమై,
బాధింపబడు సంపదల్ కలుగుచో, ప్రత్యక్షమై ద్వార సం
రోధంబేమియు లేక దుర్దశలు చేరున్, మృత్యువున్ మర్త్యులన్
వేధించున్ విధి యేది సుస్థిరముగా నిర్మించె, తర్కించినన్.

ఉ. తుంగ తరంగ భంగములతో తులతూగు విలోల భోగముల్,
భంగపడున్ నిమేషమునఁ ప్రాణము కొన్ని దినంబులే సుఖం
బంగనలందు నిట్లు మది నారసి బ్రహ్మ విచార యత్నము
ప్పొంగుచు చేయగా వలయు, భూరి జగత్ ధ్ధిత బుధ్ధమ పండితుల్.

చం. జలదము లోని క్రొమ్మెరుగు చాయలు భోగపరంపరల్, మహా
నిల పరి ఘట్టితాబ్జదళ నీర తుషారము జీవితంబు, చం
చల తరముల్ పయోభిమత సౌఖ్యము లీగతి నాలకించి స
భ్యులు పరమాత్మ యోగమున బుధ్ధి ఘటింపుడు, సత్వరంబుగన్.

ఉ. ఆయువు వీచి చంచలము, యౌవనమ ల్పదినోచితంబు, పు
పుష్పాయుధ కేళి జన్య సుఖమ స్థిరము, అర్ధము వాంఛ వోలె సా
పాయము, భోగముల్ మెరపు లట్లు భ్రమించు , భవాబ్ధి లంఘనో
పాయము బ్రహ్మ చింతనము పాయక సేయుడు సజ్జనోత్తముల్.

ఉ. కాయము గుంచి గర్భనరకంబున నుండుట దుఃఖ, మాది యం
దాయత లోచనా విరహ మబ్బుట దుఃఖము జవ్వనంబునం
పాాయక భామినీ హసన పాత్రము దుఃఖము వృధ్ధ భావమిం
కేయెడ కల్గు సౌఖ్య లవమించుకయే, జనులార చెప్పుడీ.

చం. కడు వెరపించుచున్ ముదిమి కద్దరి బెబ్బులి మాడ్కి నున్నదె
క్కుడు పగ దాయలంబలె తెగుళ్ళు శరీరము నొంచుచున్న వె
ప్పుడు చను భిన్న కుంభ జలంముం బలె వాయువు లిట్టులయ్యుఁ తా
రుడుగక మానవుల్ దురిత మోలి నొనర్చుచు నున్న వారహో.

చం. తరళ తరంబులున్ బహు విధంబులు భోగము లీదురంత సం
సరణము వానిచేఁ పొడమె, చాలు పరిభ్రమణంబు వానికై
నకులు మదీయ భాషణము నమ్మెదరేని శమ ప్రసన్నమై
పరగు మనంబు, శంభు పద పద్మ యుగ ప్రవణంబ సేయుడీ.

ఎందు వసించి ధన్యుడు విధీంద్ర ముఖామర కోటి నెల్ల నెం
చుం తృణ మట్ల దేని, చవి చూచుటచే రసహీన భావముం
చెందు జగత్ ప్రభుత్వమును చెప్పగ రాని యనంత కేవలా
నందము దానియందు మది నాటుము మానుము నీచ భోగముల్.

కాల మహిమా వర్ణనము Delienation of the Greatness of Time and Fate

మ. అది మేలైన పురంబు, పూజ్య చరితుండారాజు, రాణ్మండలం
బది పార్శ్వంబున, ఆవిదగ్ధసభ వారబ్యాస్య లత్యుధ్ధతం
బది రాజన్యక మద్ది వంది నికరంబా గాధలున్ సర్వమున్
కదలం చేసిన కాలమూర్తికి నమస్కారంబు సత్కీర్తికిన్.

శా. ఏ యింటన్ వసియించు పెక్కు లొకడా యింటన్ ప్రవర్తించు నే
చాయన్ నిల్చు నొకండు పెక్కు రచటన్ సంధిల్లు ఒండైన లే
దా యింటన్ మది నిట్లె రాత్రి దిన రూపాక్ష ద్వయిం చిమ్ముచున్
చేయుంకాలుడు క్రీడ లోక ఫలక శ్రేణికిన్ నృశారంబులన్.

చం. అనుదినమున్ నశించు పరమాయువు సూర్యుని రాకపోకలన్
ఘన బహు కార్య భారముల కాలము పోవుట కానరాదు సం
జనన జరా మయంబులును, చావును చూచి, భయంబు లేదు, దు
ర్జన భువనంబు మోహమదిరా రస విహ్వల మయ్యె అయ్యయ్యో.

ఉ. వచ్చిన రాత్రులే తిరిగి వచ్చుట, వోయిన వాసరంబులే
వచ్చుటెరింగి గూఢ తర వర్తనులై పునరుక్త కార్యముల్
నిచ్చలు సేయుచున్ జనులు, నిశ్చల వృత్తి చరింతు రీభవా
భ్యుచ్చయ రీతిచే చెడి, కుబుధ్ధులు సిగ్గు వహింప రెంతయున్.

ఉ. శ్రీ రమణీయ శంభు పద చింత యొనర్చుట లేదు, గోపుర
ద్వార కవాట పాటన సుధర్ము చేయుట లేదు, సుందరీ
హారికుచోరులబ్ధి కల నైన నెరుంగము, మాతృ యౌవనో
దారవనీ కుఠారములమై జనియించిన వారమిమ్మహిన్.

చం. వలనుగ విద్య నేర్చి, ప్రతి వాదుల గెల్చుట లేదు, కుంభి ని
ర్దళన నిశాత ఖడ్గముల దైవత లోకమునందు కీర్తులన్
నిలుపుట లేదు, చారు రమణీ మధు రోష్ఠము క్రోల లేదు, ని
ష్ఫలమయి జవ్వనం బరిగె, పాడు గృహంబున దీపముం బలెన్.

చం. వినయ విశేష హృద్య లగు విద్యలు నేర్చుట లేదు, నీతిచే
ధనమును కూర్చ లేదు, తలి తండ్రుల సేవయు చేయలేదు చ
క్కని చిగురాకు బోండ్ల బిగి కౌగిలియున్ కలనైన లేదు, గొ
బ్బున సమయంబు కాకులకు పోలె గతించె పరాన్న భుక్తులన్.

ఉ. తాలిమి మాలి కన్న తలి తండ్రులతోడ మెలంగు వారలం
కాలము కోలు పుచ్చెనని కానరు ఘోర జరాభరార్తులై,
తూలుచు నిత్య సన్నిహిత దుర్దశులై సిక తాలగన్నదీ
కూల మహా మహీజములకున్ సరి వత్తురు మూఢమానసుల్.

ఉ. ఆయువు నూరు వత్సరములందు సగంబు నశించె నిద్రచే
నా అరలో సగంబు గతమయ్యెను, బాల్య జరా ప్రసక్తిచే
పాయక తక్కినట్టి సగ పాలు గతించు, ప్రయాస వృత్తిచే
ఆయువు చంచలంబగుడు, ప్రాణుల కెట్లు సుఖంబు చేకురున్.

ఉ. బాలకుడై క్షణంబు, యువ భావయుతుండయి కొంతకాలము

According to News Reports, a High level inquiry committee constituted by its Vice Chancellor to inquire into the Feb. 9 incident of "Anti-National Slogans at JNU", has submitted its unanimous report. It appears that the Committee has has recommended rustication of students union president Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and two other students for their alleged role in a controversial event last month at which anti-national slogans were raised. I have a special affection and affinity for the word "rustication", as a student of M.A. (English Literature, Distance Education, Nagarjuna University), which was taken up and completed by me with madness, after completing my M.A. (History).

We shall first start with the word: "rusticate" , for the benefit of those who wish to tone up their vocabulary. According to Merriam-Webster.com, here is the meaning of the word "rusticate":--

Definition of rusticate: rus·ti·cat·edrus·ti·cat·ing, intransitive verb, : to go into or reside in the country : follow a rustic life.

transitive verb:

1 chiefly British : to suspend from school or college

2 : to build or face with usually rough-surfaced masonry blocks having beveled or rebated edges producing pronounced joints.

3 a : to compel to reside in the country b : to cause to become rustic : implant rustic mannerisms in

According to the Merriam-Websters.com, the word was first used in 1660.

During my English Literature Studies days, I used to spend several solitary nights, mulling over the RUSTICATION of John Milton, from Christ's College, at Cambridge. Here is Wikipedia.org's narration about his stint at Cambridge, and his rustication:

...In 1625 Milton began attending Christ's College, Cambridge. He graduated with a B.A. in 1629,[9] and ranked fourth of 24 honours graduates that year in the University of Cambridge.[10] Preparing to become an Anglican priest, Milton stayed on to obtain his Master of Arts degree on 3 July 1632.

Milton was probably rusticated (suspended) for quarrelling in his first year with his tutor, Bishop William Chappell. He was certainly at home in the Lent Term 1626; there he wrote his Elegia Prima, a first Latin elegy, to Charles Diodati, a friend from St Paul's. Based on remarks of John Aubrey, Chappell "whipt" Milton.[8] This story is now disputed, though certainly Milton disliked Chappell.[11] Historian Christopher Hill cautiously notes that Milton was "apparently" rusticated, and that the differences between Chappell and Milton may have been either religious or personal. ...

Throughout his Life, John Milton seems to have lived a saga of a sort of rebellous unpleasantness with Church and Formal Religion. There is not much difference between the situation prevailing then in Europe , where religious fanatics dominated the political scenario, and the present day scenario of India, where religion-linked Nationalism has come to the fore. There are several facets of Milton which are worth discussing, but not now at this particular blog-post.

Back to possible rustication of Mr. Kanhaiya Kumar:

The word "rustic" is the root of the verb "rusticate". As per Merriam-websters:

Simple Definition of rustic : of, relating to, or suitable for the country or people who live in the country. 2) made of rough wood

Mr. Kanhaiya Kumar is from a village in Bihar. Thus, he is a rustic, even literally. He might have been a sort of an agrestic during his early College days. After his shift to Delhi, for his Ph.D. he might have learnt the refinements of Metrogens. In Media photos and videos, he looks quite charming, may be bewitching charms. This might have added to his capability to attract the attention of his students crowds at the JNU.



Now, suppose the JNU banishes him ("rusticate" in their words). Will he go back to Bihar, and become a leader of the so-called rustics? It ought to be. I wish that he will. Villagers and politicians in Bihar may not allow Kanhaiya to do, but , he will have a very big lot to do in villages, rather than in Delhi. I always felt that Mr. Sitaram Yechury might have done a lot at Anaparti or Rampachodavaram, when compared to what he is doing in Delhi.

Everybody knows that, in most Indian Universities, Ph.D means preparation of Thesis(es) using the CONTROL X C V Cut Copy Paste Methods, produce some volumes in a hurry, get it accepted by "pandits" with the help of "purchase-able" guides, who themselves advise the Research Scholars to plagiarise. If Indian University Ph.D. Courses are to be cleansed and standards raised, such REFORMS should start with the Reformation of the so-called Wicked Corrupt Guides.

There may be some great Exceptional Research Scholars and Research Guides. I am not for generalisations.

Suspension from the Course and the University, or the probability of suspension, may cause immense mental disequilibrium to poor students, who depend for their survival on the concessional /free hostels, stipends, scholarships, fellowships etc. (I may not be correct, but I believe that the harassment at UOH, might have led to an anxiety and stress of insecurity to Vemula Rohit, which might have culminated in his suicide).

The problem with our villages, and the parents of our students in villages, is: there will be GREAT EXPECTATIONS. The boy is studying in Delhi, in a very big University. He will get his HIGHEST DEGREE (nothing to go beyond, like a Himalayan Cliff), get a University Professor job with Rs. one lac salary per month, etc. etc. A student, who does not / who could not finish his Studies can, therefore, never go back to his village, and face questions there. It is just like a youth who goes to Bollywood or Tollywood or Kollywood to become a Hero, and takes the incarnation of an Extra Actor earning daily wages. Hence, there can, never be a question of going back. An exception will arise only when the student has his body made of RURAL GRAINS.

I still have ample sympathies for Mr. Kanhaiya Kumar. He seems to have been misled by students who were receiving funds from Pakisthan and Saudi Arabia.

Last but not the least: High Power Committees in India, are not REAL HIGH POWER COMMITTEES. They are just Committees of Clerks. Even Ministers in this country are like Clerks or even worse. A peon (caprAsi) in Government cannot be easily removed without following due procedures, but a Minister can be easily removed at the whims and fancies of CMs and PMs. But, then CMs and PMs are again Clerks of Extra-Constitutional Authorities such as Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Mohan Bhagawat etc. Even Business Tycoons and Industrialists are capable of appointing and removing CMs and PMs. Hence much value cannot be given to the recommendations and decisions of High Power Committees , whether unanimous or otherwise.

There is a maxim: People get the Government they deserve. We have got the Government we are deserving. We have got to wait till 2019, to refresh ourselves.

English Gist: Making friendship with a malicious person can lead to blows to a normal person, after some days. How it is: When a sleeping cot (or a couch-bed) is infested with bed-bugs, the cot will be kept in hot sun, and beaten with sticks, so as to kill / flee the bugs. Here, the bugs are, the Anti Nationals who have tried to take over the JNU. Cot or the bed-couch is the JNU.
