| You are correct, sir. But still I am tempted to add. The same Rupee, banDi idli makers are getting. The same Rupee a school teacher working in a Private School gets. The same Rupee an auto-driver and a rickshaw-puller gets. The same Rupee a construction-worker gets. But film Heros and Heroines double their charges even if there is a single hit after two flops. Thank you Shri ybrao garu for your response. The point I was making was that things were no better in the 1970s when movie heroes were paid in lakhs. It is the same pseudocapitalistic system continuing. I do agree with your main point that the movie heroes are paid unbelievable amounts of remuneration and we are not even sure they pay any taxes on that. Let me state that this issue is not new to my thinking. In the 1960s as a college student I was gripped with the same question mixed with jealousy why movie heroes receive that kind of monies. I came to know through media that in the Soviet union the heroes stand in line after shooting finishes at the end of the day and receive their days allowance (wages) like all other workers. I thought that was the way to go.
ReplyDeletePlease permit me to point out one apparent flaw in your argument in this post. You are comparing a movie hero, the top most pofessional in his chosen field to a roadside shoe repairer. That is comparing apples and camels. Compare the life of an extra in the Tollywood to the any of the proletariat you mentioned. Compare the life of a hero to the top executive in Bata shoe company. That will be apples to apples comparison. That is how I resolved my thinking. You still have a point about social and economic inequalities in human societies. This comment does not in any reduce the admiration I have for you and your blogs. Yours friendly, P.Rao.
PS: Space permitting I have a rejoinder to Salman Khan. Yes, Mr. Khan we are interested in your salary, the toothpaste you use, your girlfriend of the week, the outcome of the court cases, how much income tax you pay, etc. Too bad you don't have the courtesy to reciprocate! :-)
