Why there is no need to worry about India's loss in World Cup Cricket Semi Finals?  Bookies decide which team is to win and which team is to lose; which player is to make half century or full century.  Why should an entire Nation break its head and mourn on such trivial matters as victories and losses?  What the Nation should break its head about, is the fate of the bettors, more particularly the bettors' parents who have to shell down the money for the addictions of their sons.

Ok it is not difficult.   I have come to know that prior to India Australia Semi Final Match, the betting rate was said to be 500:520.  From this, it is said, that a bettor who pays Rs. 500 will get Rs. 520 if he wins.  He loses Rs. 500 if India loses.  A bet in favor of Australia was said to be in the ratio of 1:500.  Meaning that a person who bets same Rs. 500 in favor of Australia would get 500x 500 = Rs. 250,000/-.  If there are no upheavals, and if everything goes on bettors' calculations and bookies calculations (India winning) , bookies would have made only NORMAL PROFITS.  (Like perfect competition in the Western Market  Economics of Smith).   Bookies are not such type of business persons who will be satisfied with normal profits.  Not only that, our traditional Western Market Economics does not work on that premises.  Profit maximisation is the goal of any business person or business organisation.

Although profits were just Rs. 20, and probable loss was Rs. 500/-, most Indians would have bet in favour of India winning.  For calculation purposes, a million Indian bettors wagered in favour of India.  5,000,000 x Rs.500 = Rs 2500 million they pay.  If India won, they would have earned Rs. 100 million.  Profit or loss of Bookies would have depended on the number of people betting in favour of Australia.  If the number of those betting in favor of Australia were large, bookies might have made normal profits, number was very large, bookies might have made some additional profits, but definitely not SUPER PROFITS.

On the other hand, if all the five million bettors who paid Rs. 2500 million would have lost entire amount.  Depending on the number of bettors in favor of Australia (this number might have been small.  Because size of Indian TV viewing population, Indian betting population, Indian cricket crazy population is far higher than those of the rest of the world).  I estimate that India's betting population and Rest of the World betting population to be in the ratio of 5:1.
