According to Wikipaedia.org, it is the aim of our Shri Lakshminarayana ji, to produce many Vivekanandas in India. I have already expressed my apprehension that Shri Lakshmi Naryana might not have studied the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda in depth.

Shri Swami Vivekananda is regarded as an Uplifter of the Indian Nation, by some strata and columns of Indian Elites. I respect their right to have their views and opinions.

It will, therefore, may not be inappropriate for us, to compare the trinity of the Shri RamaKrishna Religion (In a Supreme Court case Shri Ramakrishna Math claimed that theirs was a minority religion distinct from Hinduism. Details of this case will be given in a separate blog post.). We shall take up, as a sample, one parameter of "compassion".

SHRI RAMAKRISHNA PARAMA HAMSA

Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, founder of the Shri Ramakrishna Clan, believed that goats can be sacrificed on the 8th day of the Lunar Ascendence Fortnight (sukla AshTami day), and goat's meat can be lifted upto forehead as a token of respect to Goddess Durga. Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was/is regarded as a Great Philosopher. What type of philosophy is this which says a goat can be sacrificed on ashTami day? How ashTami day is superior or inferior to other lunar days? How can a Goddess be pleased by cutting a goat's throat?

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

Swami Vivekananda during his second visit to United States, had visited California. In California a Vedanta Society was started at his instance, by his disciples. Even now, it seems to follow a custom of offering goat's curry as 'prasad' (divine food which is offered to Gods/Goddesses and blessed by them). My Western, American, Californian Readers, if there are any, are welcome to correct me.

Swami Vivekananda after his return to India after the second visit, wrote a letter to a German Lady settled in United States, from Belur Math on NOv. 12, 1901.

"...Day before yesterday, however, came the Puja of Kali. We had an image, too, and sacrificed a goat and burned a lot of fireworks. This night every Hindu home is illuminated, and the boys go crazy over fireworks. ..."

Here Swamiji was writing to Ms. Christina Greenstidel, as if some noble thing was done by them. Is this the essence of Hindu VEdAnta (essence of vEdAs?) or Vedic Philosophy? Just sacrifice a goat, burn a lot of fireworks?

Here is a quote from Belurmath.org page:

"...It is customary to perform bali or animal sacrifice at this sacred juncture. When the first Durga Puja was celebrated at Belur Math in 1901, Swami Vivekananda wanted to have bali done. But Holy Mother prohibited it and, in obedience to Holy Mother's injunction, animal sacrifice is never done at Belur Math. Instead, a banana is ‘sacrificed' as a symbolic bali."...

Leaving aside that bananas too have life, and to sacrifice banana fruits also tantamounts to violence against plants and ultimately violence to creatures, for the time-being, taking only "animal sacrifice to get blessed by Gods / Goddesses" as an indication of superstition, now let our readers decide: Who is the least superstitious of the three? Our Nation Uplifter? Or a semi-literate Woman Sarada Mata? Who is the most compassionate to animals, of the three? Who is the most educated among the three, if "education" means the "ability to distinguish between what is good and what is bad" ?
