In my earlier posts, I have written about how much I am indebted to Late Suravaram Pratapa Reddy, for his great enlightening book 'Andhrula sAnghika caritra' (The Social History of Andhras, which had greatly influenced my thinking.
Late Suravaram Pratapa Reddy covered the Social History of Andhras, dynasty periodwise, i.e. CAlukya period, kAkatIya period, Vijayanagara period, 1600 to 1757 period etc.
The period of coverage of Hampi Vijayanagara rule is very extensive, probably because Vijayanagara Kings patronised poets, musicians, dancers, and other artists, and consequently lot of literature is available describing the conditions prevailing in those days.
The verses in books of those days, elaborate descriptions of life styles of people of various castes and occupations. Late Shri Pratapa Reddy quoted extensively from the books of those days. We shall take up one such verse, which describes the lifestyle of a 'yati' (yati = one who tries. Try what? Try to attain 'yogA' unification with the Sureme Soul 'paramAtma'). Yatis tend to be passing through a path of enlightenment through self-regulation (In Bhagavad gita, we have a chapter by name Atma Samyama yOgA - the path of self-control.), undertaking penance ('tapas'). Now quote from Suravaram:

Source of the verse quoted by Shri Suravaram Pratapa Reddy: Book by name Suka Saptati, page 3-545.
Further observation by Shri Suravaram:

English gist of the verse: The poet of the Suka Saptati was describing the daily regimen of a yati (Enthusiastic trier of Union with God. ybrao-a-donkey notes: The difference between a yati and a yogi: Yati is still in a stage of making attempts and efforts. Yogi has already accomplished the Yoking Union with the Supreme Soul.).
TrishavaNa snAnamulu - refers to three head-baths a day with cool water (considered as an aid for control of kAma (lust and sexual appetite)). ishTa dEva pUja refers to the worship of one's favourite God(dess).
Grantha pArAyaNamu - refers to perusal and study of devotional books and scriptures. Parabrahma cinta - refers to concentrating, contemplating and meditating on the Supreme Soul.
Bhaiksha bhukti - refers to satisfying one's hunger with alms begged from houses. harItakI bhakshaNambu refers to eating of the fruit Chebulic myrobalan (Terminalia Catappa). Indian gallnut.
ajina Sayanambu kaligi - refers to sleeping on deer skin. ayyati vosagu - refers to 'that seeker gives (does daily)'.
Approximate gist of Late Suravaram Pratapa Reddy quoted above: The maxim of medical science is : 'Myrobalan is equal to mother'. (ybrao-a-donkey's explanation: Probably it means: Mother is regarded as protector of her children. Myrobalan is ten times more effective when compared to a single mother). It is very useful. People say that if a person eats everyday, a myrobalan fruit preserved and processed/soaked in sugar as a murabba (Murabba seems to be an Arab word, a name for preserved fruits such as pomegranate, in sugar or honey) continuously for six months, his-her gray hair becomes black. But people also say that, it reduces masculinity of males. The purpose of yoke-seekers consuming myrobalan, is to get their masculinity reduced.

It is not clear, what was the source of Late Suravaram Pratapa Reddy, for this information. I am unable to trace this in our ancient Ayurveda books such as Junion vAgbhaTa's ashTAnga sangraham, Susruta samhita, Caraka Samhita, Parahita Samhita, and other books.
If any of our readers have any herbal/Ayurvedic experiences of six months consumption of myrobalan fruit blackening gray hair, or reducing masculinity of males, they are welcome to write their clinical experiences/comments below.

Herbs like other medicines of other systems can have many effects. Increase strength and stamina of users. Decreasing strength and stamina of users. Increasing urges, without increasing powers, stamina, strength. Decreasing urges, without affecting powers, stamina and strength.
One personal experience I wish to quote. Invariably on almost all days I consumed brinjal in my food, I had a raised sexual urge, without any proportional increase in sexual prowess.
In the sameway there may be two possibilities for the yatis who consume myrobalan: 1. They may have greater self-restraint + reduced desire to have sex, without affecting their sexual prowess. 2. They may not experience any change in sexual urges, while their sexual stamina gets reduced, in other words, they may have slower erections. Unfortunately, Ayurvedic physicians in India, whether qualified or traditionally inherited doctors, do not maintain sufficient clinical records of the results of consumption of medicines containing myrobalan.
Suggested solution: Ayurvedic doctors may have to, not only maintain detailed clinical records, but also make them available (without mentioning names and addresses of pateients, to protect their privacy), to researchers for computer data entry and analyses.
More citizens and patients should come forward for clinical experimentation and studies.
Anyway, from what we read from Late Suravaram Pratapa Reddy's Social History of Andhras, we have two choices. Get black hair and sacrifice masculinity , or bear with gray hair, without foregoing masculinity.
Have you ever thought? आप कभी भी शोचे क्या ? మీరు ఎప్పుడైనా ఆలోచించారా?
Even herbs can have side effects. वनस्पतियों को भी सैड इफॆक्ट्स रह सकते। వనమూలికలకు కూడ సైడ్ ఇఫెక్ట్ లు ఉండవచ్చు. Homeo medicine will not have. Reason: They do not contain any medical substances, except alcohol and sugar.
