Some of our readers have an impression that our blog covers the path of devotion.  हमारे विज्ञ पाठकों में एक विचार दिख रहा है कि हमारे ब्लाग में डिवोषनल (भक्ति या पारलौकिक) मॆटीरियल लिख जा रहे हैं।  విజ్ఞులైన మన పాఠకులలో కొందరికి ఒక అభిప్రాయం ఉన్నట్లు కనిపిస్తుంది.  అది ఏమిటంటే, మన బ్లాగ్ లో భక్తికి సంబంధించిన విషయాలు ఉంటాయని.

As far as this ybrao-a-donkey can recollect, in the 451 blog posts written here, nothing relates to devotion or bhakti.  जहाँ तक इस वैबीराव गधे को याद है, आज तक यहाँ लिखा हुआ ४५१ ब्लाग पोस्टों में कुछ भी डिवोषनल या भक्ति संबंधित नहीं है।  ఈ వైబీరావు గాడిదకు గుర్తు ఉన్నంత వరకు, ఇక్కడ వ్రాయబడిన ౪౫౧ బ్లాగ్ పోస్టులలో భక్తికి సంబంధించినవి ఏవీ లేవు.

Not only here, in the nearly 15,000 pages so far written by me on the internet, I am unable to recollect having anywhere written supporting devotion or bhakti, prayers or prArdhanas.


Devotion (devotion and obedience to God)- and atheism, Marxism they are mutually exclusive.  They are two different opposite poles.  भक्ति और भगवान सम्मुख विनय विधेयता और-- नास्तिकवाद, मार्क्सिजम  परस्पर वर्जनीय हैं (मेरे विनम्र राय में).  భక్తి, దేవుడియందు వినయ విధేయతలు, ప్రార్ధనలకు,  మరియు -- నాస్తిక వాదానికి, మార్క్స్ సిధ్ధాంతాలకు పొసగదనేది నా వినమ్ర అభిప్రాయం.


Hence, there is little possibility (almost no possibility) of my writing favourable essays about devotion, and prayers.  अतः, मै भक्ति भावना, प्रार्धना भावनाओं को समर्धन करनेवाले रचना करने के प्रयास करना करीब करीब नहीं उत्पन्न होगा।  కనుక నేను భక్తిభావనలను, ప్రార్ధనలను (ఏ మతానివైనా) సమర్ధిస్తూ గతంలోగానీ, వర్తమానంలో కానీ, భవిష్యత్ లో కానీ వ్రాసే అవకాశాలు తక్కువ.

Question: Why don't you support path of devotion and prayers?

Ans: First of all there is no proof of existence of God-Goddesses.   Second, even if they exist, we cannot expect them to be persons who will entertain flattering and expect kneeling.  It will be like General Manager in an Office, expecting his subordinates to sing his paens day-in and day-out, garland him all the time, prostrate before him in absolute surrender.  An effective General Manager  cannot be interested in prayers, but diligent sincere hard-work from his staff.  Superiors should be able to identify on their own, who works and who evades.


Incidentally, I wish to make certain things clear:  यही अवसर पर , मैं कुछ विषय स्पष्ट करना चाहता हूँ।  ఇదే సందర్భంలో నేను కొన్ని విషయాలను స్పష్టం చేయదలుచుకున్నాను.

We live in a pluralist society, functioning on a fulcrum of mutual respect and tolerance.  हम एक बहुळत्व समाज में जी रहे हैं, जिस के काम काज, कार्य पध्धति परस्पर सहन, गौरव पर आधारित होते हैं।  మనం బహుళత్వ సమాజాలలో జీవిస్తున్నాము.  వాటి మనుగడ పరస్పర సహనం, గౌరవంపైన ఆధారపడి ఉంటాయి.

For example, my wife and, my sons, their wives are strong  believers of Gods.  They go to places of pilgrimage as per their beliefs.  At the most, what we can do is, if they listen, point out that all that may be futile or that since God is said to be omnipresent, he-she can be prayed from here, etc. etc.   Suppose like Prahladas they take up a different argument, we like Hiranya Kasipus  can't hit some pillars and demand them to show in the pillar where that VishNu is!

If some people do not believe what we say, we need not disrespect them.  At the same time, it is expected, that they too will allow us to have our own way, as long as our ideas are not going to critically and seriously hurt the society.  अगर  किसी लोग, हमारे वचनों पर विश्व नहीं करते हैं , तो हम उन को अपमान करने के जरूरत नहीं रहेगा।  उसी समय पर, उन लोग भी हमारे को हमारे मार्ग मे जाने देना पडेगा, जब तक हमारे भिन्न मार्ग, समाज को तीव्र संकट में नहीं डालेगा।  మనం చెప్పే వాటిని ఎవరైనా నమ్మనపుడు వారిని అగౌరవించ వలసిన అవసరం లేదు.  అదే సమయంలో వారు కూడ, మనల్ని మన భిన్నమైనమార్గంలో, అది సమాజాన్ని తీవ్రంగా గాయపరచనంత వరకు, వెళ్ళనివ్వాల్సి ఉంటుంది. 

Writing ideas  like this, should not be taken as hypocratic preaching.  ऐसे भावनाओं को व्यक करने पध्धति को पाखंड नहीं मानना चाहिए।   ఇలా వ్రాయటాన్ని ; చెప్పేవి శ్రీరంగనీతులు, దూరేవి దొమ్మరి గుడిసెలుగా భావించటం న్యాయం కాదు.

In spite of our best efforts, sometimes, whatever we write, may give an impression that we are preaching.  कभी कभी, हम जितने भी कॊशिश किये तो भी, हम धर्मोपदेश कर रहे हैं दिखता है।  కొన్ని సార్లు మనం ఎంత ప్రయత్నించినా, ఎదుటివాళ్ళకి నీతిబోధ చేస్తున్నాము అనే అభిప్రాయం కలిగే అవకాశం ఉంది.

Reason for this.  It is the 1000km. distance between what ought to be and what is.  इस का कारण यह हो सकता है कि, क्या अभिलषणीय और क्या वर्तमान चलित इन दोनों में हजार किलोमीटर दूर होते हैं।  దీనికి కారణం ఏమిటంటే,  ఆదర్శానికీ, వర్తమాన వాస్తవాలకు మధ్య వేయికిలోమీటర్ల దూరం ఉండటమే.

I am sorry that I gave an illusion to my readers, that our blog is about devotion to Gods and Goddesses.  I apologise for this error.

Since my childhood , I was attracted to, and I became a slave of Classical Telugu Padya, gadya literature  and Indian Classical Music, both of which have synergies of mutual survival with the theme of DEVOTION.   Classical Poetry and Classical Music help us in creating a mental state of harmony with devotion.   Consequently, religion benefited from Classical Music.  In the same way, Classical Music and Poetry benefited from religion, in the sense that they would have met with their grave long back, had they not received some patronage at least from temple renderings and concerts.  Without Classical Poetry (both poems and kritis) and Classical Music (even mantras use music of udAtta and unudAtta svaras with sriti and laya), our worship methods would have become dreary deserts.  Even today there is one international religion which shuns use of music in prayers.

కవిత్రయం, నన్నెచోడుడు, పోతన, శ్రీనాథుడు, పెద్దన, తెనాలి రామకృష్ణాదులే కాక, విశ్వనాథ, శ్రీశ్రీ, జాషువా, చిన్నయసూరి, ఉమర్ అలీషా, ఇలాగా మన వారందరూ, వారే కులమైనా, మతమైనా, ప్రాంతమైనా, మనకి అత్యంత ప్రీతి పాత్రులే.  వాళ్ళు భక్తి గురించి వ్రాశారా, భక్తేతరాలు వ్రాశారా అనేది అంతగా ముఖ్యం కాదు.  వాక్యం రసాత్మకం కావ్యం అన్నట్లుగా వారు వ్రాసింది అర్ధవంతం, మధురం, మననం చేసుకొని మిత్రులతో మరల మరల ప్రస్తావించుకోటానికి వీలైన ప్రతిదీ మన బుర్రల్లోకి ఎక్కాల్సిందే.   అది పేదప్రజలకు, శ్రమజీవులకి, మేలు చేసేదిగా, ఉత్తేజం కలిగించేదిగా ఉంటే ఇంకా ఇంకా గౌరవనీయం.  వాళ్ళు వ్రాసిన వాటిలో ఎక్కడైనా లోపాలు ఉంటే వాటిని మనం ప్రస్తావించుకోవచ్చు, వాటిని పరిహరించుకొని, మిగిలిన వాటిని వాడుకోవచ్చు.  గుద్దలు కడుక్కోటానికీ, కవిత్వ తత్వ విచారానికి, ప్రజాజీవిత సమస్యల పరిశీలనకూ సంబంధం లేదు.  (గుద్దల గురించీ, ఎవరి గుద్దలు వాళ్ళు కడుక్కోటం గురించి ఇంకో సారి విడిగా వ్రాస్తాను).

Film music, particularly the 21st century Indian film music, derives its strength not because of its musical strengths, but because of extraneous reasons like dances, double meanings, vulgarity etc. etc.

But this cannot be the case for Indian Classical Music.  One reason for its dependence on literature (sAhityam or lyrics) is people are not adequately aware of the beauties of music as a science and consequently they do not take interest i learning it as a science, in the same way as chemistry or physics are learnt.  I am not writing of unemployed youth, who have to attend to their priorities of getting jobs and settle themselves in life.  I am referring to middle aged persons, who have some time to spare, and some energy left before their bodies become decrepit. 

This particular post is getting lengthy, by delving deep into problems of music.  Anyway my writing about poetry and music, is not to be construed as writing about DEVOTION TO GODS AND GODDESSES.
