Today, Indians are celebrating our 75th Independence day, with great gusto. The above verse by Poet Dhurjati, the Court poet of Vijayanagara Emperor Sri Krishna Deva Raya, depicts his (poet's) anxieties when Rulers become greedy for money. Dhurjati seems to be worried more about duties of Castes (Telugu: nAnA jAti kriyal). He is worried about comforts of Respectable persons . He is worried about protecting Prostitutes.
ybdonkey-note: Vijayanagara Kings earned thousands of bucks by taxing Prostitutes. Those taxes they used to pay wages to Soldiers. Rulers were more worried about taxes. With regard to protection, probably the Kings might have been giving protection to Prostitutes from drunken visitors. I believe temples of those days were not collecting taxes from devotees visiting temples. Besides, a devotee can pray to his God in his own home, in privacy .
About the avaraciousness of Rulers of Andhra Pradesh post-independence, the least said, the best. Rulers and Poets may not be worrying about Prostitutes. But Rulers worry about income from liquor. Similarly, Temples have become greedy for moneys. For example, the TTD, in the name of Covid 19, has dispensed with 'free entrance' to common People. In Tirumala Balaji Venkateswara Temple, people have to purchase Rs. 300 special darSan ticket / or donate to some Trust / or go Tirupati with a Recommendation letter from Ruling Party MLAs/MPs. Why people do not pray in their own homes? Hindu theology has space both for nirguNa worship (Praying without idols),and saguNa worship (Praying with some tangible forms such as picture frames or idols). Actually idol-worship is only to be treated as a stepping stone to "nirguNa worship".
The Euro and Iranian immigrant Aryans were not idol-worshippers. They were more interested in performing sacrifices with thousands of animals and birds. However gold was a prerequisite for performing all types of sacrifices. In Vyasa Mahabharata Yudhishthira performed Aswametha sacrifice by minting gold. Vyasa guided his grandson Yudhishthira in the mining, by telling him that gold stored by King Marut was available underground. TTD can also, instead of harassing People, can mine for gold in Rayala Seema Region. Temple preachers and Gurus should guide the TTD Chairman, Board and EO,about sources of Gold, underground.
