WHY BANANA FRUIT IS NEVER A DESIRABLE FOOD? कदली फल खाने के लियो क्यों पथ्य नहीं है? అరటి పండు తినటానికి ఎందుకు అపథ్యం? CAUTION: This is not a medical Blog. I am not a Doctor. यह वैद्य ब्लाग नहीं है। मै वैद्य नहीं हू। ఇది వైద్య బ్లాగ్ కాదు. నేను డాక్టర్ ని కాదు.


abhuktvA Amalakam pathyam,
bhuktvA tu badarI phalam,
kapiththam sarvadA pathyam,
kadaLI phalam na kadAcana.


Eating a gooseberryfruit before meal, is good for health. After meal, eating berry fruit (Ziziphus mauritiana of family rhamnaceae), will be good. Eating stone apple, is always desirable. But, banana fruit is never a desirable thing to eat, (from the point of view of health).


अभुक्त्वा आमलकं पथ्यं भुक्त्वा तु बदरीफलम् |
कपित्थं सर्वदा पथ्यं कदली न कदाचन ||


भोजन खाने के पहले, आमलक फल को खाना, आरोग्य के लिये अभिलषणीय है। भोजन खाने के बाद, बदरी फल खाना अछ्छा रहेगा । कपिथ्थ फल को हमेश खा सकते हैं। कदली फल खाना कभी नहीं वांछनीय है।

అన్నం తినక ముందు ఉసిరి పండును తినటం మంచి పథ్యం (ఆరోగ్యానికి మంచిది). భోజనం తరువాత రేగు పండు తినటం పథ్యం. వెలగపండును తినటం ఎల్లప్పుడూ మంచిదే. అరటి పండు ఎప్పుడూ పథ్యం కాదు.

This verse is found in some Moral Science (nIti SAstram) Books. But is exact origin is not known.


Among ancestral Indians and, Medieval Indians, some classes of people used to spare time to study the effect of different types of foods they eat, on their bodies and health. They used to try to establish some sort of *`CAUSE AND EFFECT`* relationship between eating of a particular food and its consequent positive and negative effects on their bodies.


Through the Centuries of Indian History, those these food-disease relationships, food-health relationships have not been standardised and scientifically studied using Statistical Methods or Quantitave Applications, some of the verses in use in India to decide on what to eat and what not to eat, seem to hold good in their homes.


Reasons for suggesting that bananas are undesirable for health, are not available anywhere.

Title of the news report itself indicates that Potassium rich diet may protect-kidney-heart-diabetics. "Potassium-rich diet may protect kidney, heart of diabetics".


This web page quotes research studies of Shin-ichi Araki of Shiga University of Medical Science in Japan.

SUMMARY:

Our ancestors (nIti SAstram) seem to suggest that bananas (rich in potassium) are not desirable. Kidney.Org report linked above suggests reduction of Potassium. But the Japan Report published by DC and Hindu seem to support increased potassium consumption.


Only non-existent God seems to know the truth.

TAIL PIECE धूमकेतु తోకచుక్క WHILE typing this article, I was listening to the National Program of Music Sangit Sammelan of All India Radio.


It is Carnatic Vocal. Vidushi Gayatri Venkata Raghavan. A very melodious concert. The last and main item of the program is rAg kIravANi, kaligi unTE kadA. Both the AlAp and the gat gave an impression that Simhendra Madhyamam rAga is being sung. This is probably because Kiravani and Simhendra Madhyamam are very close ragas. The difference is only in the sriti of madhyamam. Kiravani has Suddh madhyam (milder) whereas Simhendra Madhyamam uses the note prati madhyamam (stronger i.e. tIvr madhyam).


One probable reason may be: The singer has apparently sung in panchama Sriti i.e. sa note at a higher level of 5. Its shadjam sriti equivalent of sriti 1, gives us rAga Haimavati (not "SimhEndra Madhyamam" as written by me here earlier. I apologise for the error). However, I felt that I was listening to SIMHENDRA MADHYAMAM, probably because of my own listening problems. Any way, a great concert because both Kiravani and Simhendra Madhyamam penetrate through hearts.
