It is a known fact that World Today is ruled by mafias of various kinds. Earlier, many countries of this world, used to be ruled by politicians through bureaucrats. Now, the countries are ruled by mafias of different varieties, through their proxies i.e. the politicians and the bureaucrats. Whatever be the reasons, this bitter truth should not hurt anybody. The degrees of intensity of the Impact of Mafia Decrees may vary. In some countries, we may have an illusion, that we are ruled by democratically elected people's representatives, who deliberate people's problems in Legislatures, make laws to ameliorate them, design and implement programs for creating and maintaining a Welfare State. Of course such hallucinations and deliriums do not harm our health. Had such delusions not been there, people might have been dead long back becoming ghosts and spirits, with nobody to vote in the Elections conducted by bureaucrats and politicians. Sometimes Business persons may mature into mafia leaders, and finally metamorph themselves into politicians and people's representatives, enabling themselves to make more laws, and issue more Executive orders.
After undergoing some excruciating agony, I have decided to prepare, as a sample, a list of ten mafias, which seem to be ruling the State of Andhra Pradesh in India. This list may not be accurate. It is a subjective perceptive view-point of ybrao-a-donkey, and are not intended to be imposed on my Readers.
Mafia | Modus Operandi / Example |
1. Transport Mafia | Building huge Private Transport Companies to operate illegal Bus services. Taking permits for running Contract Buses, but operate them as Stage Carriages. Using multiple buses with same Registration Number, or same permit. No botheration about safety of people. Exploiting transport workers with subsistence wages and long working hours. Evading Taxes. Private Transport Operators have entered politics, got themselves elected as Members of Parliament. They even threaten Government Officials, insult them in the glare of TV Cameras |
2. Real Estate Mafias | Occupying Govt. Lands, private lands. Creating forged / fictitious Land Registration Documents. Threatening people. |

Every alternate house in A.P., and Telangana States seems to have mothers/wives/children beaten by drunken sons/husbands, demanding money. |
5. People's Representative Mafias | Collecting percentages from contractors operating in Constituencies. Demanding and obtaining sub-contracts from the Main Contractors. Bringing pressure on Govt. Officials to obtain contracts in family members' names and benami names. Threatening Govt. Officials and beating them publicly. Jumping to the Ruling Party, if collections are not adequate, or if there are frequent obstructions from steadfast adamant Govt. Officials. |
6. Film Mafias | Working as Investment Channels for Criminals, by using crime-tainted money to produce / distribute films, block film theatres by en masse purchasing / getting on hire theatres. Operating as Financiers to Producers. Helping Stars and Heros to distribute their films in thousands of theatres in the first week itself, and recover all their investment in one go, before people can even know that the film is a dud. |
7. Education Mafias | Running Corporate Colleges, Corporate Universities. Leaking question papers. Manipulating Results of Qualifying and Competitive Examinations by lobbying and bribing. Obtaining fees reimbursements from Government, for fake / fictitious / dormant students. Harassing students and parents of students. Entering politics to influence Government decisions. |
8. Media Mafias | Running stooge newspapers and TV Channels both for the Rulers and the Opposition Leaders. Threatening and Blackmailing people for advertisements. Publishing Paid News. Publishing / broadcasting interviews, after charging ransom-like rates. Selective Censoring and Publishing of News. Not separating news from their own views. Harassing Reporters, Photographers to motivate them to jump compound walls, chase film stars for photos, and interviews. Harassing Editors and Sub Editors by not disclosing their names to public. Robbing the Editorial freedoms of Editors and Sub-Editors, Columnists and Writers. |
9. God Person Mafias (of all religions, and castes). | Serving as Astrologers, Face Readers, Palmists, Kshudra Puja Performers ( Performers of worship rituals of sundry-wicked (said to be wicked) Gods-- for politicians and bureaucrats, business persons and industrialists. Accepting donations from Criminals, knowing pretty well that donors are criminals, with a philosophy that donors may be criminals, but their money is valid for buying lands and raising buildings. Purchasing aircraft for flying. Accepting gifts of A/c cars from devotees. Establishing TV Channels ostensibly for protecting religion, but using them for personal publicity. Threatening Govt. Officials, and politicians of dire consequences, if they fail to prostrate, and accede to all their demands. |
10. Drug Mafias | Illegally encouraging cultivation of heroin , purchasing and illegally transporting narcotic drugs. Bribing and Threatening Police and Govt. Officials. |
11. Sand Mafias | The Rivers Godavari, Krishna, Penna, Nagavali, Vamsadhara, Muneru their tributaries, and distributaries have huge reserves of sand. Sand is a very highly priced and valuable commodity in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State. Sand Mafias illegally excavate sand on a massive scale, using proclains, cranes, and transport the sands on boats, tractors, trucks to make millions. The relations between Sand Mafias, and the MLAs/MPs / Party in-charges of the Area need to be probed in depth. Theoretically, Govt. policy says that sand is FREE in ANDHRA PRADESH. |
